They should just stop wasting time and write Kellie a check because we all know that's what's going to happen. Which is fine, but she better be prepared to bring a good staff because otherwise it's going to be more of the same. The first hire she should make is Melanie Balcomb.

I have serious reservations and would personally rather have Gail or Niele over her. There is really nobody in Pat's coaching tree that I would want to have the job, TBH.

Also, if someone has reservations about Walz's ethics, then they'll stay clear of McGuff. Walz is a saint compared to McGuff.

Also, he isn't a good coach. In the mold of Aston. Worse than Holly. So there's that.

I have a serious question as I have seen it mentioned a few times, but what is the obsession some have with Melanie Balcomb? After watching her at Vandy, I just don't get it.

Agreed Balcomb knows offense. Plain and simple.

Watching Missouri State they really play just like UT but they were more defensively sound. When Stanford forced them to play in the half court and run offense they couldn’t score. Almost all of their scoring comes in transition or the secondary break. Completely unable to get a basket running offense.

She also won’t be able to have her husband on her staff, and shouldn’t. I cannot stand when coaches do that. It seems to work for the softball team, but it feels silly to me in basketball.

Like having mommy and daddy on the sideline and it’s obvious nepotism.

She's a great offensive mind, and offense is something that has been lacking in this program for many years. I think Balcomb does much better as an assistant, much like Caldwell (Fargas).

I honestly think people are hanging on to Pat's legacy a bit too much. Pat's coaching tree is big but it isn't deep. I honestly believe Gail or Niele Ivey should be given the strongest consideration given the cirumstances. And I think either one of them would have the support of the alumni and the fanbase. It doesn't HAVE to be a former player. People really need to let go of that. Gail has always been respectful of Pat and the UT program. She had trouble at Texas for similar reasons that Nikki has had trouble at LSU; she didn't recruit well. I will say that Aston has recruited well to Texas, even though she's a horrible coach, but it's harder in Texas to recruit with Baylor and A&M around. I actually believe Gail would do quite well here, and she would immediately be a top 2-3 coach in the league. And she would have a much easier time recruiting. If I'm Fulmer, I talk to her and offer her and make her say no. She may even be my top choice if I'm Fulmer. If she says yes, then Kellie and Niele. Then as last resorts, Fargas or McCray. Rueck isn't going to leave OSU and I don't believe Close would be successful here at all. She's been only modestly successful at UCLA, despite recruiting very well, with help of where she is located.

She’s a big reason South Carolina won the National Championship. Dawn was smart to bring her in when she did. Balcomb could make a career out of being an offensive consultant for teams.

Yep, she was.

I also think a fringe candidate should be Nikki McCray. She was incredibly instrumental at SC in recruiting and getting that NC, and she's done well at ODU so far. Given her success and she's a former LV, it would make sense to at least have her on the list. Honestly she's just as impressive as Kellie, whose only remotely qualifying attribute is her teams' S16 run this year.

Whoever the new coach is, they should be smart with their assistant coaching hires. I think they would be wise to keep Sharona on the staff and possibly Dean, but also be smart enough to know who will help them in recruiting and also coaching an offense.

I agree Reaves is #1 because of recruiting priority but what does she add to the court side of things ?

Does BG seem like a good fit in anyway? She seems to be the person that lays down the law when it comes to on court expectations.

And Dean I have no clue a ball of energy his posts like Candace, Nicki A, and Izzy thrived while others like MRussell never seemed to get up to snuff.

?Why would she not be able to have her husband on staff? How do the Weekly's get by with it? Is it because they are co-head coaches. As for having a Mommy-Daddy feel. I would embrace that as a parent. It would be less likely for any funny business to be going on.

In TN, a state employee (which would include HCs at public universities) cannot have a situation where one spouse is the boss of another one. So the Weeklys are co-HCs and one isn't the boss of the other. They are equals on the staff and I assume get equal pay.

The volleyball head has her husband on her staff but not sure how they get around the nepotism rule the state of Tenn has. Co head coaches work well for the weeklys and I am sure be arranged!

I’m relatively certain that when they were hired they were not married. I would assume that’s how they avoided any conflict there.
