I'll probably post all my thoughts on my blog later tomorrow after the press conference, but after doing some research, I really like what I'm reading/seeing. He brings a toughness to the program. Not only that, his teams are nosed and very disciplined. Only averaged ten turnovers a game. He improved the program by 15 wins in just a couple years. He won the MVC for the first time in 23 years at Missouri State. He was the main recruiter for E'Twaun Moore and JaJaun Johnson at Purdue. And from what I've gathered, he was #2 on Mizzou's board after Matt Painter, and was #1 on Purdue's board if Painter left. He will bring disciplined basketball to the Hill, which is something we desperately need. He played in the league, and while that was only for a couple years, it's only a positive.

I think UT hit a home run here, and, from people that have seen my posts, I'm not usually an optimist.

I posted this in another thread...sorry if you already read it. It echos some of the things the op highlighted:

TIFWIW...i've been talking to a lot of purdue alum/fans tonight and all seem to think this is a great hire. To a few of your points...most of them want him at Purdue if Painter ends up leaving. On the recruiting topic..evidently he was one of Purdue's best recruiters while he was there. So purdue fans seem to be very high on this guy.

The ironic thing is...i went to IU. I am a knoxville native..have loved the vols since i could walk. But moved to Indiana during grade school and ended up going to IU. So in addition to vols basketball...I do love IU basketball. (neither compares to vols football...imo) What I'm trying to say is...I've always hated Purdue with a passion. Much like Florida and Alabama. So the fact that we hired a purdue guy is weird (in addition to chaney obviously)...and the fact that I'm glad purdue peope like this guy...is weird.

I wonder if he is successful here and say in 5 years Purdue comes knocking will he leave? I assume that would be his "dream job".

Cut went to Bama. Turning a rival can be a great thing.

The current coach at Purdue is the same age as he is and also went to Purdue. I imagine he'll hang around.

Gotta be impressed with what CCM did at MO State this year: 23-7, with an RPI of 43 - that # is higher than 7 of the 12 teams in the SEC.

How many posts did you make regarding this "home run" candidate before today?

I'm not going to lie. I barely heard of him.

However, unlike some on this board (not saying you), I didn't panic. I was shocked to see his name hired. So I did research, read a couple boards, looked at his resume, and some team stats, and realized "This guy's resume looks great!"

I have to say this hire reminds me of one Hamilton hired about 13 months ago. Straight laced, high on integrity and yet hard nosed when needed. :clapping:

Now maybe Cheek and the trustees can do the same......
