Why are the starters still in (edit for clarity: after halftime) with absolutely nothing to gain? I hope they lose now and lose in the playoffs because of it.

might be a case too where, most of these teams before playoffs will play their starters till they pull away 2-3 scores, then it's all backups

Hey man, its a choice the head coach makes. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. A lot of the players prefer to play, I've seen it in interviews.

Or you can look at this like a playoff game. Defeat your hated rivals today and they are out of the playoffs.

What's the "damned if you don't" to leaving starters in?
Players want to play right up until they get injured in meaningless games...whats the plus side to keeping them in? They've already played a half anyway...

What good coach gives a crap about fanbase bragging rights? It's all about the Super Bowl, and this can do nothing but hurt their chances if someone gets hurt.

That was a generalization based on last years Colt's team. All I'm saying is that momentum is a big thing, beating a hated rival is a big thing, and if players needed rest, I would be willing to bet that he would let them sit.

Hmm let me explain it again,
If the Bears defeat the Packers then that's one less team they have to worry about in the playoffs. Seems like motivation to me to play my starters.

Like he said, ask Indy. Or ask San Diego from a few years ago. Sitting players sometimes backfires as players get out of sync and come the playoff game they look rusty.

Yes the Patriots got burned last year but they didn't in 2007. Playing everyone didn't hurt them, they came within about 30 seconds of having the best season ever.

Playing a half knocks the rust off. The second half is nothing but a risk. The Patriots had something to play for, and while 16-0 doesnt help you win the Super Bowl, I can see why they'd want that. The Bears have zero justification.

If they played them in the playoffs it'd be in the NFC Championship game at home. You're telling me Lovie Smith is scared of that and would rather play in Atlanta? That makes the thread title even more true...

OK, ok...all in favor of firing Lovie and hiring vka say " I"....

thats what I figured.

Yeah, clearly this thread has nothing to do with the various serious injuries that occur in meaningless games and everything to do with my desire to be the Bears' head coach. You nailed it, brainiac.

So you lose to them on purpose to keep this senario alive? Resting starters is overrated.

Man you act as if you're the biggest Bears fan alive and you're scared to freakin death that Cutler is gonna tear an ACl or something. They play, they get injured, they get paid..it's the NFL.
