Is it just me or did Dooley keep almost every player Kithead and pick up players that kithead would not have picked up because they thought he was a punk. Even ESPNU is now slamming Kithead and talking how much better of a guy Dooley is. Oh, I'm loving it.

I wish Brandon Willis would have waited a few days before reacting to Kiffin leaving. I think he will regret signing with UNC after seeing how things are going with Tennessee. Maybe he didn't have time with being an EE and all but I wish he was here. Other than Willis, I am very pleased with this class.

It's just you, for sure.

Explain How? we were 7th when Kiffin left, were 6th right now and close to being 7th. We lost Ambles and picked up Hunter and Ambles and James Stone who would not go with Kiffin. Yes we lost some but he did keep most of the players and pick up a few. Sorry but I disagree with you.

We would have finished better if Kiffin stayed.

That's true due to the stability and the fact that Kiffin had a year to build relationships and a complete staff in place. Who knows what would've happened had Dooley been here with a full staff for the whole year.

I don't think it's fair to compare the two with completely different situations but considering the time Dooley had, I think he did a great job.

Given DD had less than three weeks and an incomplete staff before NSD and a previous unethical staff trying to steal recruits, he is almost a miracle worker. Five times better acommplishment considering the circumstances than the punk last year when he had much more time and no previous staff to fight off. Congrats to DD and staff, especially to Chaney and Thompson.

To be honest, im a little disappointed.

I think a little perspective is in order.

This is the second year in a row that a new HBC has arrived with but weeks to go before NSD and delivered a Rivals-ranked top 10 recruiting class.

CLK ran off QB Taj Boyd last year b/c he did not fit in a pro-style offense. Sort of wish we had him now. But on the whole he & his staff recruited well, kept together the great class the CPF was building before getting fired, and built on it..

CDD did the same thing: kept together the good class CLK had built and added to it by getting some great WR's & OL prospects.

I think these two rocky years in a row say much more about the reputation & pull of Vols football & less about the coaches themselves. Kids WANT to play here & the school is bigger than the coach.

So, IMHO things will only get better with some coaching stability. But hard for me to be disappointed in back-to-back great recruiting classes given all the turmoil over the past 24 months.

Go Vols!!

Dooley did a great job, but don't kid yourselves. If Kiffin was still the coach, UT would have finished with a top 5 class:
A. Dixon
C. Green
J. Hunter - he still would have switched
C. Smith
D. Jones
C. Lemonier
B. Willis
M. Ambles

And all the rest of the guys DD signed minus Rogers, Nance, Crump, Sapp, etc.

First off, we did not keep almost every player from the Kiffin class. We lost a BUNCH.

There's no question whatsoever we were headed toward a top 3 class under Kiffin.

I'm not saying I would trade coaches, I'm just pointing out the gross inaccuracy of your post.

If you told me this is how we would end up 3 weeks ago I would take it all day and twice on Sunday. Got to keep perspective here... we were dealt a very bad hand to play... and considering the circumstances, we won out.

And if Dooley had a whole year we might be number 1 right now. Seriously, he took over the program with 3 weeks to NSD, no DC, no DL and we are 8th right now. Hiw can anyone be complaining? Yes, of course Kiffin would have probably finished our class higher but he was here a whole year. Dooley had 3 weeks and picked up Rogers, Hunter, etc. I think considering the situation he did an amazing job.

I'm fairly certain that Rogers and Nance were in the bag for Kiffin. Dooley just picked up where Kiff left off with those two.

not if you believe what Rogers said after signing

Rogers said new coach Derek Dooley was the main reason he decided to go to the Vols. He wasn’t sure he would have if Lane Kiffin had remained there as head coach.

“Before Dooley, not so interested. After Dooley, a lot interested,” Rogers said. “So it was a big thing for me.”
