Loving this signing class!

I just had an Alabama guy at work complaining about all the running backs bama took because all of the backups they have are 5 star guys that have been injured or didn't pan out. This is why I don't put to much stock in the star system.
I think this is a good starting point for CBJ and many of these guys wanted to be vfl's and that helps with future recruits. Lots of players didn't like Dooley and when recruits would come players had nothing to positive to say. One of the many reasons his classes declined every year he coached here.

It is important to have quality guys I'm the locker room and I think this class has just that.

GBO!!!

Everyone look at K-State's class this year and in the past several years. Look what Snyder is doing there...for a second time. Granted, not the SEC, but they play tough, hard nosed football and creamed us years ago in the Cotton Bowl when we were pretty good. CBJ is a coach, not an attorney pretending to be a coach, but a coach. His record proves it. I think he has a better chance than Dooley at getting the most out of these guys. I think he has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder and the opportunity motivates him, doesn't scare him. I think he will own it 100% and we won't see him throw asst. coaches or players under the bus. I don't think he'll hesitate to make a coaching change if need be based on performance and who comes available. But a top 20 class starting out in a 50 ft hole is admirable. Yeah, I wanted a top 10, but I also wanted a Ferrari for Christmas! There's a difference between fantasy and the reality of a situation. I'm hopeful but not blind. There's some proving to do for CBJ. But he's doing that already and he's a different animal than our previous two coaches. GBO!

A top 10 recruiting class falls to 20-30-40 if enough blue chippers don't make it to the field. That was a big reason for our decline beginning around '03 (Fulmer ::cough:: Cup).

If this class stays intact it could be one of the best ones we've had this millenium.

Sounds like it has been that long since we had a winning season, guess it feels that way at times as well.

Love your avi....looks like a buncha people on here picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue (or perhaps too much of it, depending on the poster). ;)>

I'm thrilled to have those who chose to be Vols. I think many of them will be solid contributors at some point. Having said that, I'm still pissed at that guy who strung this fanbase along, then took a big s**t on us at the last minute, just so he cold have his moment of drama on espn.

I've made my career in business by ignoring what I don't have and appreciating what I do. I think Volnation would benefit greatly from a little of that perspective. That said, I'm thrilled about our newest signing class!

Joshua Dobbs is the biggest piece of this pie. The kid is simply amazing. He's got a nice, accurate arm. He can move around in the pocket but he's also got the intelligence to understand how read the defenses and develop the patience to stay int he pocket while the play develops. The brain is the most important tool in a QBs box and this kid has a sharp one.

Marquez North is a beast. 18 years old, 6'4" 215 with 4.4 speed. If he commits himself to improving his route running, he could be dominant.

Jabo Lee is the sleeper of the class. He's nimble and quick and could be the type of back that flousishes in Coach Jones' offense.

On Defense Jalen Reeves-Maybin has the size and speed to be an impact linebacker while Corey Vereen has that plus the smarts (1120 SAT score) to lead an improved Defense.

At 6'6", 280 and growing Jason Carr can anchor our D-Line.

These are just the players who stand out in my opinion. The other players can help us with much needed depth in all aspects of the game.

We'll look back on this class in a few years and say this is where we really started our climb back to the top.

It pisses me off to no end how u people talk about Dobbs like he is the next big thing when Riley beat him on the Elite 11 and had a 10x better scholarship list.

Thanks. Lloyd Bridges would've torn these negative Nellies a new one.

Oh, brother.

Let's call it what it is: a very underwhelming class.

Sure there are some nice pieces. There will be in any class. As a whole, though, there isn't much to be excited about.

I applaud your optimism, though.

I'm not at all underwhelmed. I'm happy to have the kids we have and look forward to watching them play the next 3-4 years.

Except the rankings correlate to dominance on the field (with the occasional aberration like Ole Mi$$). That combined with good coaching gets you wins in the SEC. You can't rely on "coached up" 3 stars forever.

Yeah, I believe you can. Start rankings should be considered guides, not hard and fast rules. It's so difficult to predict how a 17 or 28 yeast old kid is going to grow and develop. Stars use a variety of factors to make educated guesses about what could happen but they aren't 100% accurate.

A good class with some nice pieces. Now CBJ and the staff have to coach them and the current players up and win some games. plain and simple.

Ferguson is a great recruit as well. Los of potential there. Dobbs seems special to me though. His smarts make him stand out in the crowd.

I like this recruiting class. Don't love it. Butch didn't have much time so I give him the benefit of the doubt. We'd better love next years, or this nightmare goes into double digit years.

We missed on a few guys that would've raised our ranking to a higher status. That does NOT mean that we got low quality recruits. These guys will help us and provide depth to our current players. If properly coached our team will be just fine next year.

This is Good Class, first year for CBJ and co. I would say he did ok.....but OK does NOT win in the SEC....He needs to step it up Big Time next year or we are in trouble for a long time

The star rating system is the worst thing that ever happened to recruiting. Many 5 star players have failed and many 2 and 3 star players have flourished. It's crazy to me to project next years wins and losses based on our rivals, 247, espn, etc. rank. It all means absolutely nothing if you can't win on the field and play as a unit. I would much rather have team chemistry and roster full of "hungry" kids, than a bunch of prima donna 5 stars that feel entitled to start with no extra effort. Give me Boise St. all day long over USC...

Same comments that every fan makes when their team doesn't get the 4* and 5* players but that dog don't hunt. Every school that has won a NC in the last 10 years has had at least a couple of top 5 recruiting classes, that is a fact. Some 2-3* players excel and some 4-5* players bust but put a team built with 4-5* players on the field against a team built with 2-3* players and the 4-5* team will win 99% of the time.

Good post OP!
I agree. Also agree on Foreman. I saw him play vs Maryville last fall & was upset he was going to Vandy. Really glad we got him!

Coach Fooley had this program in shambles when he was fired. With that being said, I'm impressed at what CBJ was able to do with ONLY 31 days on the recruiting trail. I'm expecting big things from him, his staff and the team this coming football season. The 2014 recruiting class is looking good and I'm very optimistic about the future of the program!! Here's to rising back to the top! :toast:

Funny though how the star system gets criticized when your program doesn't have a good recruiting season but not so much when you do! Bet the Bammers are saying the star system is spot on!

Yes. The star system has no validity.
