"Al Wilson, LB, Tennessee: The heart and soul of Tennessee’s 1998 national championship team, Wilson played every game as if it were his last. He almost single-handedly willed the Vols to their dramatic 20-17 win over Florida in 1998 with 12 tackles and a school-record three forced fumbles. It’s no coincidence that in Wilson’s three seasons as a starter at Tennessee that the Vols were 34-4 with a pair of SEC championships and a national championship. Wilson played the game with a fire that filtered down to his teammates and was at his best when it meant the most. He finished his career second all-time on Tennessee’s tackles-for-loss list and remains one of the most revered players in school history."

I'll never forget attending Phil Fulmer Football camp for high schoolers in 1994. Al Wilson was in my group and Lovie was our group coach. That was the same week that OJ was on the run with AC and I missed all of that because we didn't have tvs at camp, smartphones, or internet. The good old days.

Al Wilson was a monster. Definitely top 5. My dad always brings up Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds, how well he played and how he got his nickname.

Nice to see a Vol make the short list.

Al Wilson was as much about leadership and motivation as he was about being a top five LB in the NCAA. He was probably the best but I don't remember the other LBs of his day. Dude had fire and desire in him and that is another reason it so important to get Maggitt back as he has those leadership/motivation traits.

He led and dominated in the Denver Broncos defense until he hurt his neck. Denver's defense really fell off after he medically retired.

He was the total package and I would love to see him back in Knoxville coaching the defense. He would get those guys ready to swarm, no doubt.

1st team AA. 1st round NFL draft pick. Perennial NFL Pro-Bowler. Emotional and disciplinary leader on national championship team. Made huge plays at critical times. Forced turnovers. Simply, one of the best MLB's in NCAA history.

Due to my age, I only have a little bit of a memory of these days. I really hope that I can experience this kind of Vol football at Neyland Stadium in the near future.

Hopefully we all will with the legacies coming on board.
