LSU "Air Conditioned Helmets" for 2023 Season

I was thinking it could be used in a way that keeps the blue-hairs happy. during conditioning/camps you wear the normal helmet. But during game weeks you get the nice AC ones to keep you fresher. that way you are prepared in the heat, but then get better performance come game day.

I mean, can they handle the wear and tear of helmets banging together through an entire season and the air conditioner in the helmet still work. Curious

Yeah... I don' know...

What happens when one part of your body is a lot cooler than the other? Cooler vessels are gonna constrict, right? So, now, in the course of the game, you've got less blood flowing to your brain than to the rest of your body??

Oh.

Guess that's why they chose to promote them at LSU.

Didn’t you hey try some kind of fluid cooled vest several years ago? IIRC Bill Bates was somehow involved with them. I think they demonstrated them in a game that Tim Tebow played against Hoover.

No…

Your body gains and loses a lot of heat from your scalp. One of the first aid steps for heat prostration is cold, wet cloths on the head (also, neck, armpits, and groin.) Blood vessels are right under the skin surface.

Your brain is under your skull. Temp changes on your scalp aren’t going to have a huge effect on blood flow to your brain.

If this reduces heat injuries in late summer practices, it seems like a good thing.
