LSU Coach Pokey Chatman quits over alleged inapproiate relationship

id say the LSU womens program is pretty much in the toilet for awhile. its a real shame because Sue Gunter did so much for womens b-ball and hand picked ms. chatman to fill in for her. ms. chatman didnt do anything wrong except try and have a private life which doesnt seem to be allowed in this country anymore. i just hope this doesnt start a dang witch hunt in womens sports. the media just cant get over the fact that lesbians and gays are in sports. i cant believe LSU wouldnt stand behind ms. chatman. it just shows what a classless university it truly is.

I don't think the university is trying to keep Pokey from "having a life." There are plenty of lesbians in Louisiana for Pokey to date...And I think it's well understood that women's athletics has a significant proportion of lesbians (and perhaps the same can be said for men's sports) -- so I don't think the media or the universities have a problem with that.

I do, however, think the University is holding Pokey accountable, just as your employer would with you if you were fraternizing with a colleague or a subordinate...now, if this relationship never existed while the player was at LSU, I'm not so sure that the relationship is "inappropriate." But we don't know a lot of details about it right now.

well according to the news ms. chatman was the current coach, and this was a affair with a FORMER player. so if that is the truth what major rule did ms. chatman make? LSU cannot say who their coaches date or their former players date. if it was a current player on the roster then yes fire her for rules violations. as far as i know only bill clinton can get away with screwing a individual working for him. guess it would be the same thing wouldnt it???????

perhaps the player is Former, now? But was current at some point when the relationship was happening.

Melissa, let's wait and see what happened. If Pokey started a relationship with one of her players WHILE that player was still at LSU, that's a serious problem. Many organizations, schools, etc. do not permit fraternizing with students by faculty, regardless of gender.

i agree with you 100% if the affair took place with a player who was with ms. chatman while she was her coach. but what if the report is correct and there was nothing going on except a gay relationship? ms. chatmans reputation is ruined either way. she will never be able to go to another NCAA program and coach. no school will want to take the chance on hiring her. she would not be able to recruit any top players in the country because parents are not gonna want to send their kids to a university where a DYKE is the head coach. they have tried to start a witch hunt at UT like this before with CPS and her asst. coaches. its BS you know it i know it and its never going to go away. its a darn shame that a womans career is already over because of some biggoted redneck is upset because ms. chatman loves differantly then they do.........

Umm ... I'm going to go out on a limb here and think you might be overreacting a tad. Athletic programs at Division I schools care about winning and money, first and foremost. If Pokey can't get another job coaching, she'll make plenty of money on book tours, interviews, and Oprah appearances, trust me.

Melissa, you're just heated, and overreacting.

Pokey's career is not over...and I suspect she'll have another job coaching a college team next year.

If parents don't want to send their kid to a women's program where the coach is a lesbian, then only about half of the nation's women's programs will have players.

You simply don't have enough details to be yammering about how "redneck" and "bigoted" the LSU AD is...let the details come to the surface first.

I'm a women's bball watcher just like Melissa and I was a bit shocked and upset when i found out because Pokey was a good coach for women's bball. I expect to see her on Sunday Conversation on Sportscenter in the near future though.

ive been playing ball since i was knee high to a grasshopper. ive played softball against alot of former UT players and have gotten to know them as friends. i went to the same school (Bradley) as jodi adams. and brittney jackson, and zandra montgomery. if you guys dont believe this is a witch hunt than talk to some of the former players at UT. you dont realize what CPS has gone through in her 33yrs at Tennessee to keep our program at the level it is. I mean look at the guy who just came out that he was gay that played in the NBA. better yet call CPS and ask her how hard it would be to recruit kids with their parents knowing the coach is a lesbian. come on guys this very same thing has happened before. just a few years ago you had the womens coach at notre dame accusing pat, wendy o'leary and other female coaches of being lesbian. she was trying to influence parents not to send their kids to UT and Penn State. this crap has been going on for awhile. hey its just ms. chatmans life, right? no big deal for any of us. im sorry if you guy's think im over-reacting but i cant stand to see anybody screwed over.
