LSU coaching search will be interesting

Brady isn't looking so good at Carolina. Maybe Burrow made Coach O and Brady look better than they really might be

He's just in the same boat as Coach O. Tough year on the roster. The only coach I've seen coach up this year with a depleted roster is in Knoxville at the moment. There record is as expected, but he has what is available to him playing at a whole different level than we've seen lately. He has put FL and Bama on notice IMO, pending an off-season to recruit and get some warm bodies.

Basically a perfect storm... Orgeron, Brady, and Burrow all came together at the right time.

Personally, I think this will year's coaching search is gonna have a big shake up in the SEC. I think James Franklin will be the next HC at either LSU or USC (more likely), leaving Penn State in need of a new coach. The obvious choice for them would be to re-hire Bill O'Brien, who was very successful stabilizing that program post Sandusky scandal. But I hink they will again reach into the SEC East and poach another coach in the midst of revitalizing a traditionally SEC bottom feeder program. I think they poach Stoops from UK. And I think UK hires Bill O'Brien.

Like most other people, Mel Tucker is currently my favorite for LSU. Tucker is a guy who clearly is a gun for hire, and has ties to LSU. But my dark horse candidate is Urban Meyer. He's been a disaster in Jax. Maybe he sticks it out, but if the money is right, I have no doubt he'd tuck his tail and run back to college in a hot minute.

Considering all the "off the field" rumors circulating around Coach O hiring Urban would be a move from hell.

Maybe so. But they know he can win. And that's all they care about. Mel Tucker is a good fit, but he's certainly a risky selection. Of course, I thought Coach O was a risky selection.

Most would not be with those parameters. If you dropped Saban in Baton Rouge, and said go 10-2 at worst, but you cannot make any staff changes and you have to do it with this exact roster, he's gonna drop 3-4 minimum this year. You lost your primary QB to make a good season, and the Super Bowl Son hasn't exactly lit it up every week. The onus for O and LSU this season has been uncharacteristically weak O-Line and a mediocre back up QB that wasn't ready yet to be the guy. And all the while knowing most of the Admin never wanted you anyway. IMO, Coach O has been pretty professional about his existence there, especially his attitude about finishing the season already fired.
It's the most amicable break up I've ever seen. I think even O knows he caught lightning in a bottle, it resulted in the highest of highs, he can't really come close to replicating it, and he'll gladly take millions to walk away.

O got his ring. He probably wanted more years but yet he can walk away a happy and rich man. He could probably take his homespun Cajun wit to a TV booth somewhere and earn some additional jack.

Franklin could probably earn more money from his contract buck at LSU because of taxes and cost of living in California plus corner the market on in-state Louisiana talent.

LSU would have likely finished 8-4 last year in the regular in a normal year. It's even possible/probable that they beat MSU if they faced off later in the season, putting them at 9-3 in a normal season. But much the same way it ended with Butch, it isn't necessarily the fact the he lost, but more how he lost. Getting throttled by your rivals a year after winning the national title is not a good look. Down years are going to happen to any team that isn't coached by Nick Saban. But you can't lose by 30+ points to both Auburn and Bama.

I don't think the James Franklin style fits the corn dogger culture. But, Urban Myers would...and, he sure isn't going to win playing big boy ball.

The impression that I've gotten (which admittedly is anecdotal) is that most LSU people think they are too good for Napier.

I can see that. But, also think it would be a mistake. Easy get. Winning coach. Knows the state. Young. Unfortunately from Tennessee:mad:

I think I either read, or saw a clip, where he commented on a question about coaching somewhere else and he said he was 60, been coaching x amount of years, and would have plenty of money to take a break.

He turned down better jobs last year.

Doesn’t seem like the type of coach who moves around a lot.
Ugh.....Auburn and USCjr are better jobs than LSU?

I definitely don’t agree with that. LSU is a top 5-10 job.

Compared to Louisiana, they’re certainly better jobs.

He could leave but he doesn’t seem like in a rush to go elsewhere.

Maybe he’s waiting for the Tennessee Tech job, so he can come back home to Cookeville.

He would take LSU job if offered. He is probably plan B. I think they swing and miss at a big fish. When/if that falls through, Napier is next. Look who Auburn ended up with. I am sure initially, Auburn, thought they could get a better coach than Harsin. While expectations are crazy, LSU is a top 5 job. You can win a Natty in short order. That is not case at USC.
