LSU Infractions

If LSU got these sanctions, I wonder what pimping coeds to high school players is going to get?

I'm wondering that too.

The big difference in our case, I feel, is that we no longer have the people who caused the trouble, and the AD got canned.

The only thing that will hurt them is the 10 percent reduction in recruiting visits. One year probation and 4 scholarship reductions over 2 years? If we get off that easy, I'll be thrilled.

I have no problem with the infraction, to me LSU did it right as soon as they found out... suspended the player and coach right away, then they did an investigation.

If LSU is getting this much of a penalty from a penalty they self-reported and it was basically one case, well to me USC or Auburn should get the death penalty.

I can't make sense of the NCAA, the sooner the feds go after the NCAA and the BCS the better in my book.

The NCAA should have released a statement saying what LSU did was right and the correct way of performing business.

Now if the NCAA would have been investigating why Chris Jackson(LSU basketball 88-90) back in the day was driving around in gold Mercedes, then I would agree to some serious sanctions.

Even if it seems clear what happened, I don't think they'll be able to prove that much.

Reaves knowing about the trip doesn't quite equate to that.

The NOA speaks to Reaves's contacts with the hostesses, it doesn't go into detail re: the content of those contacts.

The NCAA accepted LSU's self-imposed reduction of two scholarships, as well as a 10 percent reduction in official visits and reductions in recruiting calls. The reduction in visits, which LSU already began during the 2010-11 academic year, also applies to 2011-12.

The violations reported in the case also included more than 3,600 phone calls that three noncoaching staff members either made to or received from high school coaches and administrators, prospects and family members of prospective students.

In effect, LSU already has served its punishment regarding scholarships, having limited itself to 83 total scholarships during the 2010-11 academic year. That means the Tigers will be playing with the maximum 85 allowed scholarships in the 2011 season.

''A situation that could have been much worse was made better by the dedicated work of the LSU athletics compliance staff and I am pleased that the NCAA recognized LSU's effort to cooperate and be proactive,'' Martin said. ''The compliance staff ... made an exemplary showing of how a university should react when mistakes are made.''

We sent girls to a high school game. We corrected our situation as LSU and have made strides to make sure we are doing things correctly. If you can pay for housing and commuting and lie about it, then have the coach responsible released and the school take responsiblity and be cleared by the ncaa for self imposed sanctions, how do we get anything other than a slap on the wrist.

Agree. I think we are looking ok. I like the argument, "they can't kill us because they will have to lay waste to the other programs who are far worse off." i.e. Oregon, OSU, hopefully Auburn.

This punishment is what a lot of folks on here were predicting for Tennessee. There is no way Tennessee doesn't get worse than LSU.

...except for the fact that the NCAA has specifically made a point to go after some of the coaches involved.

Yup. Just like LSU did with their receivers coach.

D.J. McCarthy threw himself under the bus, LSU found out about what he was doing. McCarthy was selfish in that he was getting bonus money for recruiting. He only cared about himself.

Are double-negative how they train writers in Alabama? Sorry. I'm seriously not trying to be a db, but I would think you would want to display better?

How about: "There's a very good chance UT gets hit harder..." ?

Also, why do you think UT gets hit harder? I don't see UT accused of anything as bad as listed above for LSU.

This. Especially on the heels of the OSU ruling.
