LSU O lineman transferring

They've already had that. His name was Curly. They've probably forgotten. I think they're about to learn again

As a frequent visitor to the Bayou state and one with many friends down there, they've forgot all about Curly. In their eyes those seasons never occurred and Saban needed them more than they needed him. It kills them to see what Saban is doing at Bama, cause that woulda been them

They are an arrogant lot. And I'm looking forward to more Curly days

LSU retains the in-state recruits, in theory they should be able to compete at a high level, if not, its on the coaching staff at some point.

Saban was liked while he was in Baton Rouge, I'm not sure what you mean, he thought he could treat the players in the NFL like he does at the college level. Eventually he would have got his ass kicked.

Saban was liked in BR until he started being dishonest with the players first, second he started talking about LSU when he was no longer welcome back after leaving after his failed NFL stay. As far as a coach, he is a real good coach. As far as a person, no, I do not think he is a good person.

As far as players leaving, I would not surprised by another QB to possibly leave either before the year starts or after this season. Either way, the team is in very good shape other than the OL and possibly NT. Every other position I could see LSU going 3 or 4 deep, the OL could be a huge problem... I think more for 2018 though. This season is just about whether special teams will be improved and whether the offense can generate an extra fg or td in 1-3 tough games.

I am just excited for a fun season, LSU was very fun to watch last year after les was let go.... more of the same will be good to watch.

If I were to guess, I think what Canada is doing will work against the easier teams, but not sure how much success he will have against the tougher teams.... I remain suspect on that.... but as the stats point to.... he doesn't need to generate but an extra fg or td, more or less. I would be kind of shocked by a drop off of the defense even without Keys. Special teams has significantly dropped off over the last 2 years... LSU actually had some of the worst special teams the last 2 years I ever saw there. If the special teams improves then I think the season gets interesting, even if there is no significant improvement in the offense against the tougher teams.

Transfers happen too often now days and especially after a coaching change but the number of them happening at LSU should be alarming. I don't see how anyone could put a positive spin on losing 5 OL (for whatever reason). 5 OL has to be at lest 35-40% of the depth. You will not have success in the SEC without quality depth at OL - see TN 2016.
Admittedly I don't follow LSU very closely and don't know the roster.

There is no positive spin on the OL issues, it definitely could be a real issue, not sure what you mean by positive spin. But at the end of the day, you play with what you have.... I guess the alternative is LSU just shuts down their football program.

Seems pretty easy to me... LSU needs to generate an extra score and a few more first downs in the tougher games. They have to figure it out with the players that are there.... I think they will do fine, but it for sure can be an issue.... I say more a problem for 2018, but if an injury bug hits the OL during the season, yeah, it could be a huge issue. That's the way it goes, play with the players you have... whether that is a 5-star guy or a walk-on.

Nobody cares in the SEC whether you are depleted at a position.... go out there and knock some heads whether its a 5-star guy or a walk-on. There is no positive spin... I have no idea where that came from... it is really too bad MT decided to not conform as the rest of the team does... they definitely needed him. My guess, LSU still wins plenty of games this year.

Seems like rats escaping a sinking ship at LSU. At this rate do we think Orgeron will be there after 2 seasons?

Okay maybe that was the wrong term to use and I am a pessimist by nature. It just sounds like you are a glass is half full kind of guy and there is nothing wrong with it. I hope Canada can work around the issues with depth. If he can maybe Butch Jones can take notes.

I don't believe in "The Secret" book crowd but with that said, you play with what you have. The OL should be okay, but there is a lack of depth for sure. The rest of the team is in very good shape. Canada will have to earn his money, maybe more in 2018 though.

I still think they will be a strong team even with the OL being in a depleted state, time will tell... a few injuries on the OL and its hard to see how November will be successful though.

I think LSU will have a strong team this year, so yes. Not all these guys that left was it voluntary which is why LSU was still at the 85 scholarship level until a few weeks ago. MT not being on the team hurts for sure, Scott was more or less the 5th QB on the roster as Brennan a true freshman appears to be #2.

A college can only have 85 scholarships on the roster. Brown was probably the other OL that I would have liked to see stay, the rest, not sure it was going to work from what I am hearing.

There really isn't anything different this year than other years as far as attrition, other than its the OL, specifically OT. A school can only have 85 on scholarship... so either its someone leaving or someone not coming during the Fall. MT getting the boot did hurt the team.

Even though I hate to say it, Bama will probably be the class of the SEC again this year. I think you guys and Auburn will probably contend for being Bama's top competition in the West.

I like how the 6 teams from the SEC that are ranked this preseason are the 6 traditional powers of the SEC.

How would you rank LSU's games this year in order of difficulty?

And you best be ranking Tennessee second...

Unless LSU can find a way against Bama any and all progress stops there, but I don't think that should be the goal... try new things, some it will work, some it won't... get better and have fun. If you can beat Bama, you basically can take care of the rest if you set your mind to it.

LSU has a pretty tough SEC schedule, Mizzouri is dream to play against, but this year LSU has Tennessee in Knoxville and have to travel to Florida. So.... this early on to me the problems have been the good rush D teams i.e. Bama and Florida, but new offensive coach kind of puts a lot of unknowns in the mix.

I think the test for LSU is special teams and offense sometime around Mississippi State (away). I would not be surprised by some of this stuff not working... so the adjustments will have to be made from the 1st game to the 3rd (MS), then further adjustments after MS to the Florida game.

Besides some of the comments in the thread, Canada is not really a wide open aerial attack guy... although he has also ran those type of offenses. Generally, that crap really doesn't work in college football over the long of the season. imo

Canada has basically implemented what he had going at Pitt which not necessarily fancy as it may look. Basically, the key to it working is spreading the ball around, taking the pressure off the QB and RB to make plays every down. Aranda was talking about how Canada's offense puts pressure for the D to figure stuff out... he said it was a challenge at practice.

The play that really does it... is the inside pitch. If the D overplays, the inside pitch is soon on the way.... after that there isn't a triple option... to me their is a quadruple option available on his inside pitch play. Watch the Clemson game... Clemson kept getting burned on the inside pitch.... what does the Clemson do... move the safety into that gap.... well does Canada... runs the inside pitch but the RB runs a wheel route for a TD.

Many times during the Clemson game... Canada went to 5 WR sets.... of course, they are not all WRs. Many of the plays... all 5 guys are open. lol Its going to be interesting to see if this all works come October/November. But making the D think for a few miliseconds on a play does help when playing the tougher teams. In today's game, equal teams the defense has the advantage if they see you line up in the I and know you are coming down road with the pitch.

LSU needs to significantly improve special teams and or offense... but if they can improve both to even close to average they are going to be hard deal with. They next an extra fg/td or a few more firstdowns in the tougher games. Canada doesn't need to score 20 more points game.

Concerns:
- OL weak in pass protection and depth
- NT could be a problem if Gilmore gets hurt, due depth
- WR could be a problem if there are a few injuries due to depth, only because the WRs run so much in this offense

To me it comes down to whether special teams doesn't sux and whether the offense can generate 3-7 more points or so in the tougher games.

Time will tell, I like the team... hopefully its fun like last year was after Les was let go. Losing is okay, play to win and try new stuff if something isn't working.

I'm all Vol, but do live in Baton Rouge and read about LSU every day.

I will say two things:

1. It seems like LSU fans do just have more fun with it, while at UT we get all tore up about it more often, myself included.

2. Am so glad Les Miles is gone; I like Orgeron much better.

Yeah, I am sure not everyone is in agreement on Orgeron, but I think 99% of people knew it was time for Les to go after Wisconsin. I'm not sure Orgeron will work out for sure... I think he made a ton of changes that actually did help.

If you look at what he did last year at LSU and what he did at USC after Lamo was canned.... I would say he did a pretty good job. Of course, taking over mid-season a few times won't necessarily reflect multiple years of recruiting and playing in the SEC.

Its a very positive development that Les is now gone, it was time.
