Radio here in Baton Rouge is discussing their OC, Jimbo Fisher, as NC candidate.

They heard he was on local NC radio sports talk recently.

Anyone else heard this?

the name has been thrown around up here on the radio in Charlotte...along with several others.

I just cannot imagine that UNC is going to take a flyer on a guy who's never been a head coach.

Unless they are going to shell out the big bucks I think they don't have much to choose from.

they've done it before.

the AD is the one whos on the hot seat here. DB has long been blamed for not getting Roy the first time around and is completely blamed for the current coaching situation in football.

if he doesn't hit a homerun and get a "name" guy that these people have heard of, he may be out next.

plus where does UNC think they really are in football? by judging from the fans reactions to the names out there....they are delusional.

Someone yesterday acutally mentioned Dom Capers. lol.

Why is Capers that far fetched?

let's just say, when you think about possible candidates for that job....he's the last guy....wait, forget that...he wouldn't even come to mind.

he's a good DC, and has been a decent HC at NFL start ups. Has yet to prove he can win over the long haul. basically, does anything about Dom Capers get anyone excited?

He has no recruiting experience that i can think of, he does have ties in North Carolina, but to me, he's just a smaller version of Bunting. Nice guy, good coordinator/position coach, no personality...not a long term HC solution.

That's almost exactly what they said in Los Angeles about Pete Carroll.

good point. but for every pete carroll, i'll show you a Chan Gailey, Al Groh, Bill Walsh etc...with the exception of Gailey this year, they have all been bad at the college level.

and getting kids to come to the Southern Californnia area at a tradition rich program like USC can't be too tough...at least compared to UNC...it's nice dont' get me wrong...but LA and USC it's not.

is it a forgone conclusion that he's gone in AZ? i know it's not rosy right now....

Green is gone in AZ, losing to Oakland was the last straw

from the list of names in that article you would think the team trying to fill the coaching vacancy was a real football school

My gut says you hit it with the first name.

My initial reaction as well, however their biggest need is someone to get them going on the offensive side of the ball. It will be ineteresting to see what happens. I wonder if Stoops or Spurrier would be interested in USC if Carroll leaves? Both seem like they would be oil and water, so I am just thinking out loud. I do think that Stoops is most interested in getting out of the college game.

I think the whole Bomar affair has permanently soured him on the college game. I can't see Stoops coaching anywhere else in college.

If Carroll were to leave nothing would please me more than seeing the U and USC fighting over a head coach. If UT is going to return to national prominence it is obvious that something will need to happen externally. The problem with that is I think that Tressell will be at TOSU until he drops dead.

I've always thought Jimbo Fisher was a little overrated. He's one of those guys that seems to have had his name elevated, people then assume he's really good, but that he never did much to deserve it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but he wouldn't be my guy.

Incidentally, Auburn's turn into a dominant program coincided with his departure and subsequent insertion of Al Borges.

Borges is the guy I'm enthralled with, even if just as an OC.

His design and playcalling in 2004 was something to behold.

Tressel will be at OSU until he dies or punches an opposing nose tackle after an interception.

I don't see any notable program giving Fisher or Borges a shot at this point. They will most likely find suitors in the lower echelons of the SEC.

That 2004 Auburn offense was a work of art.

The 2004 Auburn offense had exceptional talent.

I don't know if Jimbo Fisher has ever really developed a QB. When I look at Jamarcus Russell I think he should be one of the best QBs in the country.

Fisher left Auburn after the 1998 season. Also, which one of them has coordinated a National Champion?
