It was a mix. There was some concern that Texas A&M could jump back into the rankings at 9-3 and the playoff committee would suddenly jump them up 12 spaces behonor "head to head matchups mattering" (which seems unlikely that an unranked team would jump into the mid teens after after another unranked team team).
On the other hand, if LSU became ranked, it could make UF's win over LSU "better" in the committee's eyes, and possibly buffer UF's fall some after losing the SEC Championship to Alabama.
