Overrated = Over appreciated
So the reason LT is over appreciated is that virtually nobody mentions how good his O line was, and even somebody in this thread stated that LT was "the one bright spot". All the credit is given to LT, no credit is given to the dominant line.
The reason Emmitt is not over appreciated is because virtually everybody gives substantial credit to his dominant line.
I wonder if LT hadnt have gone to the Jets and instead retired 4 years ago, would we be having this ridiculous conversation that he was overrated? For 6 straight years, he was one of the best RBs every to play imo.
LT certainly belongs in the same discussion with those RBs, especially when you take his 2002-2008 seasons. His stats are thereThat's actually when I started saying he was overrated. He was great, but people were saying stuff like "Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, and LT."
I just didn't think that LT deserved to be in that conversation.

I'm guessing you would say Emmitt Smith is the weakest of those 5. Let's compare their resumes:
LT:
- 13,684 Rush Yards, 145 TD's, 4.3 YPC, 80.5 Y/G
- 4,772 Receiving Yards, 17 TD's, 7.6 YPR
Smith:
- 18,355 Rush Yards, 164 TD's, 4.2 YPC, 81.2 Y/G
- 3,224 Receiving Yards, 11 TD's, 6.3 YPR
Now factor in that Emmitt was good for 12-13 seasons, and LT was only good for 9 seasons. Factor in that Emmitt led his team to 3 SBs, and was a clutch performer. I don't think they are in the same conversation. In their elite primes they were pretty comparable, but career-wise it's not even close.
Even if we never agree, it's still fun, right?
Actually one of the points in favor of Emmitt is the fact that he played until he was like 50 and he still has virtually the same exact YPC, and Y/G as LT. That's impressive.
The only advantage Emmitt enjoyed over LT is the Cowboys solid D. LT had a great line. Again, Emmitt's backups didn't do anything, and LT's backups (even Chatman) put up great numbers. To me that indicates that the SD line was very, very good. He also had the best TE in the league, and for several years had a much better passing attack than Emmitt ever had.

Like I said, he's great, but no matter how good you are, you can get too much praise. That's why I say he's overrrated. I'm not the only one that thinks he got way too much recognition.

lol bleacher report. Disagree.

But according to your logic, didn't the O-line lead the team to 3 SBs?
For LT is was all line, for Emmitt it was all Emmitt....got it.
