Isn’t that what coaching is for?Teams take players based on talent and potential. I judge them by the results. I can see why teams want him. I wanted him out of HS. The talent is there but the kid has no idea how to use his talent to make his team better. I've seen enough to reasonably conclude he's not gonna fix this in college.
Game 1 starter as a freshman at Georgetown. Scored double figures both years so he was a Quality starter. This year: No 1 scorer for the 14th rated team in the country who just lost by 1 to the 6th rated team in the country in which he scored 21 points.Teams take players based on talent and potential. Your are probably right. I know very little about UT basketball but from what I have picked up on is they have a lot of talent and guards in the 6’4 to 6’7 range which is probably what prevents McClung from being a sure bet for the NBA since he is closer to 6’1.
The zero defense is a fake rumor. He gets quite a few steals. He size is a disadvantage against bigger, stronger guards. Look at my posts, did I state he was going to make it to the NBA. He is athletic enough, can create his own shot off the dribble but his HS coach and Mac should have had him working the point at least from his junior year forward.McClung won’t come within 100 miles of the NBA. He plays zero defense and is icy hot on the offensive side.
He’s a solid college player, but his destiny is Euro-ball if he wants to play professionally.
...and ?In that L to Kansas, 1 assist and 2 turnovers.
Let’s see how the stats wind up at the end of the year. 11 shots a game is certainly not a ball hog statistic and the stats I saw show 2.9 assists and 1.1 turnovers a game which I believe a decent A/To ratio. He averages:
2.4 assists
1.8 to’s
While shooting the ball every 2 mins 14 seconds of his career.
hitting about 39% of those including about 30% of his 3’s
what’s not to like?
In perspective......so far the player for Tennessee who has shot the ball the most, has shot the ball about every 2 minutes and 40 seconds...........but he has hit 50% of those.
Last year it was Bowden. He only shot the ball for 38%.........but he only shot the ball every 3 minutes.
Mac may be a great person.....I don’t know. He is a really good ball player.......but nothing unlike most teams don’t have on their roster.....and probably plenty of.
He would have been a terrible fit at Tennessee.
11 shots a game is more than anyone on our team takes, 4.8 attempts from deep is more than anyone on our team takes, 31% from deep is worse than what our starting guards shoot...all while not really playing defense, no thanks.Let’s see how the stats wind up at the end of the year. 11 shots a game is certainly not a ball hog statistic and the stats I saw show 2.9 assists and 1.1 turnovers a game which I believe a decent A/To ratio.
Someone stated he is a ball hog. 11 shots a game is not a ball hog. 20 shots a game would be.11 shots a game is more than anyone on our team takes, 4.8 attempts from deep is more than anyone on our team takes, 31% from deep is worse than what our starting guards shoot...all while not really playing defense, no thanks.
Led his team (2 different ones) in FGA all 3 years he’s played, he’s a volume shooter, point blank. Again I’m not bashing him as a player, he fits a system though (like an Auburn), that isn’t Tennessee’s style.Someone stated he is a ball hog. 11 shots a game is not a ball hog. 20 shots a game would be.
No one is arguing about his fit at TN.Led his team (2 different ones) in FGA all 3 years he’s played, he’s a volume shooter, point blank. Again I’m not bashing him as a player, he fits a system though (like an Auburn), that isn’t Tennessee’s style.
The first 2 posts bumping this thread were literally posters saying they wanted him here, one even saying they’d trade him for Vescovi. No one is arguing about his fit at TN.
I do not believe he led Georgetown in FG attempts in either year. The other freshman guard in McClung’s freshman year was the true definition of a ball hog and I believe the Transfer Center last year led the team in attempts In Mac’s sophomore year.
