Who was the last linebacker to sustain a torn ACL, redshirt, and go pro after only playing 2 years? Serious question. I can't think of any.

If we could get him and AJ back next year. We would finally have depth and some talent on the field

Redshirt him.....looks like Doug Matthews is going to be right after all. He said before the season started that he thought Maggitt would redshirt and everyone thought Matthews was nuts. Including myself.

Man you talk about bad luck Maggitt has been injured from the minute he stepped on campus. I don't think we will ever get a full season out of him. GO VOLS!

A LB recruit that I can't recall said a couple weeks ago that "Maggitt was coming back. AJ might." Curt and AJ are pretty close.

Curt has no where to go. He needs to sit it out and take a page out of the book from another Vol named Maymon. Get 100% for next year, and become the elite pass rusher he's capable of.

I thought you were going to say Kevin Simon but Maymon works too! :good!:

Man it feels like forever since Simon has played here. We had some very good LBs here in the late 90s through the 2000s, it was almost like an assembly line: Burnett, Simon, Omar, Haralson, McCoy, Mayo, Marvin Mitchell, Whiteside, Little, Wilson, and more that I can't think of off my head.

AJ needs to come back, but he will most likely go pro. He will most likely be a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Bama linebackers seldom make 1st round selections. Unfortunately for AJ, he lacks the speed to be a 1st round selection. He is a great VOL and I appreciate his toughness.

AJ will definitely be drafted. He really needs to work on his pass coverage, but I think he can improve enough to be an excellent player with his tackling skills and propensity to read the ball.

announcers were saying he still sometimes takes bad angles..really needs to fix that because the speed of NFL doesn't allow you to make containment mistakes

I do agree, I saw some bad angles from him against Florida.

I think AJ is good but his draft stock could only go up senior year with the 2013 class coming in and tennessee likely having a better season. I can't see him going first round right now so what would be the point? Also Curt coming back will be huge. easily the most impressive of the two.

Both back for next year is going to be really important....

the sad thing about AJ is hes probably the best player on the defense but when he makes a mistake thats when everything goes to ****. lots of pressure on him. maggitt coming back would take some of that weight off his shoulders IMO.

the new and improved defensive scheme has enabled AJ to be more of a leader and even though sometimes i think he still is the only one who can read a play hes not in on every tackle this year because he doesnt have to be. he needs another year IMO before the NFL but i think he will play on sundays eventually and I think he'll represent tennessee well.

Don't let the buffoons on here that bash AJ fool you, he's elite. The kid brings it every play, but he just hasn't been coached up very well here. Thig talked about Sunday how he must become better at seeing pass coverages and reacting. Yea, he takes some bad angles, along with everyone else. This team hasn't been coached right since Wilcox and Sirmon left. Our DBs haven't been coached right since Fulmer left, and our D-line has had a new position coach the last 5 years. All these idiots saying Butch is dumb for bring guys like Stripling, Mahoney, Mike Bajakian, and Elder here have zero intelligence when it comes to football. Elder, Mahoney, and Mike have been with Butch his entire head coaching career, and Stripling has been with him since 2009. That's called loyalty and stability, something this football team desperately needs. I also said before the season in a lot of threads that Jancek will get us in position to turn the ball over and make plays. In 2011 Cincy averaged like 8 TFL a game which was the best in college football, and ranked top five in the country in forced turnovers. People just need to let these guys coach a few years with their players.
