Majors agrees that Butch gets it

Didn't CJM also endorse Lane Kiffin?

I believe he’s a very good football coach. He’s very aggressive and well-organized. He’s demanding and his staff attacked recruiting very aggressively.

He was all about some Kiffin.

To be fair so was most of VN. While many, myself included, tried to give DD the benefit of the doubt, I'm not sure Dooley ever got the approval rating Kiffin did.

CBJ eclipsed both by March.

When Butch starts winning some meaningful SEC games, then I'm prepared to join the chorus of optimists who say that he "gets it." But not until.

I don't believe I've ever heard a more opportunistic former head coach use the phrase "I don't believe I've ever" more than Coach Majors has.......

That's his go to phrase. Somebody pull out the old Johnny Majors Show tapes and let's count how many times he said that. It's a big number.

He kept saying "if they give him a chance". He knew Dooley would be a bust. You just have to read between the lines. Don't worry, Johnny gets it. :)

It turns out that CDD is an arrogant azz--without the coaching bona fides--as most Lawyers are (I didn't say all, just most). If CDD had approached coaching as his father did, instead of trying to be "Saban II"--he might have won a few more games and still been here.

I said that to say this--Johnny certainly believed--as MANY on here did--that it was gonna take TIME to completely rebuild the shambles of a program CDD inherited--and NO ONE hoped that CDD would be a bust. CDD certainly has some ability as a coach--or else the Cowboys wouldn't have hired him.

The thing that irks me most about CDD--and that EVERYONE was ignorant of, including legend Majors (how long did it take him to build a firm foundation for Fulmer in the 90s?), was that CDD DIDN'T get how important it was to build relationships with ALL of the High School coaches in Tennessee--and facilitate a "healing" with all former players over the state of the program--and that's all about his personal arrogance.

Anyway--right now we appear to be headed in a very good direction, and I personally believe that CBJ WILL bring us an SEC crown. :salute:

GO VOLS!

What time of the day did John Majors make those statements? Depending on the time of day he could have been heavy on the sauce!

:)

It doesn't matter what time it was. In the morning just before breakfast, he dont want no coffee or tea, just his good buddy 'weiser, that's all he really needs.

That's just part of his oratorical style. Have you ever noticed how frequently Butch uses "individuals," as opposed to "persons" or "people"?

I get that, but the op bolded the phrase like it's never been used before. CJM uses it every day.

Look, I'm glad he's back in the fold so to speak and that he's getting to enjoy being an ex Vol coach the way that he should. I just wouldn't put too much stock in 'I don't believe I've ever'.

In those days, most years you could circle the 3 SEC wins we were going to get (Vandy, UK and Ole Miss) and X out the ones we were likely to lose (Bama and Auburn) and then take a shot at the rotating foe (which we lost to Miss State more than we won but beat LSU more than we should have). Sprinkle in one really good non conference team like UCLA or Notre Dame and a bunch of directional schools. It was pretty easy to go 7-4 or 8-3 and make a bowl game. I liked Coach Majors because he loved his university, could turn a phrase and was pretty dad gum good football coach sometimes. He went through coordinators and staff like a hot knife through butter and the grousing in the stands is about like it is today. I would buy the boxed set of the old Johnny Majors Shows however. They were entertaining.

"Lane Kiffin stopped an 18 wheeler that had been going down hill for about 8 years. Derek Dooley will get the job done. Mark my words." -Johnny Majors

Whatever. It's funny how those comments are embraced around here. Yet, if I were to make a wisecrack about Fulmer and doughnuts, I would be crucified.

Only from the Fulmoron crowd. The gif of Fulmer running around with the Krispy Kreme box is still funny as hell.

Just not as funny as Majors beating on that table with a stick after the Notre Dame win in 79 on his show. Classic.

'In my opinion.'

That's another Majorism that he used constantly. I watched 'The Johnny Majors Show' from the Ole Miss game in 79 last night on youtube. It was the one right after the big Notre Dame win and before Hubert Simpson was tossed out on his ear. Good stuff in my opinion. I don't believe I've ever been so entertained by watching a coaches show.

True but the CJM comments are okay?
Hypocrisy.

To me, the difference is it's not a secret that Johnny drank. The Krispy Kreme barbs have no basis that I'm aware of other than to make fun of Fulmer's weight.

Maybe it's the same, but it seems different to me. Both are probably unnecessary.

Way to derail the thread though. :)

Dadgum it Jimmy Noonan! Get your hands up! You're a 5 year man!
Attack, attack, attack!
I don't mind tying or kissing my sister.
I don't believe I've ever seen a punter that consistently kicks it so far and so high. He's very opportunistic.
Oskie! Oskie! In my opinion.

Adious kazoots!
