Making an argument on behalf of the Vols

There were some fans that thought we had a good chance in 2012 (and we did until the 4th quarter) but other than that one year I think our fan base as a whole is pretty realistic. From 2007-2011 there was no buzz among Vol fans that we even had a chance and Verne and Gary even talked about it on air during the 2008 game. I consider myself a realist and this is without a doubt the best chance we have had since 2006.

...but it's not said every year. Gary Danielson recalled on air during the 2008 game in Knoxville, that he and Verne were at Calhoun's the night before and he had never seen a fan base as pessimistic as Tennessee fans were about that game. Gary said that a fan started the chant, "It's great to be a Tennessee Volunteer" and nobody joined him and just looked at him like he was crazy...Verne responded. "They did not believe."...

Now, I will say that our confidence this year has more to do with how Florida has played than it does with us but that doesn't make us delusional. You will have at least some irrational exuberance on ANY fan site but as a whole we usually know where we stand relative to the opponent, jmo.
