Manafort Trial Thread

Here is what we know about the Manafort trial. Mueller didn't need Gates to nail Manafort. Gates would have been beside him in court if he didn't have information against others in the Trump camp and/or Russians. To not understand this is naive.

No. This particular case was about tax evasion. Anything asked to Gates about Trump and Russia would have been irrelevant to the case and not allowed.

So you think Mueller needed Gates to nail Manafort?

So you think Gates is not contributing to the ongoing investigation into the Trump/Russia conspiracy?

How naive are you?

This case should be a slam dunk...

Why is the deliberation taking this long??

They have to go through 18 counts one by one. Plus it's taco night.

No verdict is expected Thursday, as jury deliberations continue in the financial fraud trial for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. The jury has spent the entire day behind closed doors.
At roughly 5 p.m., the jury presented a note to Judge T.S. Ellis with four questions, including one asking him to better define reasonable doubt. Kevin Downing, Manafort's lawyer told CBS News' Paula Reid it's a "good sign" the jury asked that question.

Per
Zoe Tillman

"The jury asked if a person had to file a foreign bank report if they owned less than 50% of the account, didn't have signatory authority, but did have authority to disburse funds. The judge reread an earlier instruction on this, which said ownership had to be more than 50%, Why does this matter? Manafort's lawyers argued govt failed to show Manafort owned/controlled accounts to the extent he needed to file an FBAR. The accounts were under the names of corporate entities in Cyprus, some of which had Manafort's name on them, per govt evidence ."

" The jury asked the judge to define a "shelf" company and the filing requirements as to income. The judge said they'd have to rely on their recollection. This "shelf" company issue came up during Gates' testimony, he characterized some overseas entities as "shelf" companies —that is, corporate entities that were already set up for someone to take over and use."

IDK why this Judge acts the way he does.

"The jury asked if they could get an amended copy of the exhibit list reflecting which indictment counts a particular piece of evidence related to. The judge said no, they had to rely on their collective recollection of the evidence

So if Manafort slips thru their fingers on the majority of charges I wonder how long it takes them to put the screws back on Gates to “compose” something.

“Ok Your former boss’s debt is now your debt. We expect this debt to be paid. We’re sure you will be able to come up with something.”

The Godfather music trails off in the background...

There is no need for this. If they are willing to put these people's lives on the forefront, then they (any news outlet or reporter) should also go ahead and include their personal information and addresses.
I agree. If I was part of that jury and didn't think the .gov did their job to convince me to find Manafort guilty. I would actually worry about the press coming after me non-stop which honestly is exactly why they want this.
