Maria Cornelius has retracted her claim that Kellie was offered a path forward if...

That would be an absurd notion, anyway. DW could have kept KJH on for another year and no one would have screamed bloody murder. He's earned the right to stay the course with a coach producing good-but-not-great results. He's running one of the best all-around athletic departments in the best conference in the country.

There's nothing for him to "scramble" for. If she had an unsatisfactory season next year, he still could have made a change. But he'd seen enough to decide that the Sweet 16 was her ceiling, and that's not acceptable at Tennessee, so he went ahead and did it now. That's decisive, not scrambling.

I agree 1000%.

Why did Maria originally say that there was a path forward and then retract it. Was she asked to take that out? That is a pretty specific claim to get wrong.
If the original story is correct that seems to be to me more damaging to DW than Kellie. Either he would have been gauging interest while still planning on Kellie staying or he thought Kellie was staying and got a big surprise. So who knows if he has any idea about the interest level of other coaches.
The cats made her do it

Be very careful of your criticisms of Cornelius. She might threaten to sic her FBI agent brother on you - as she has done to other posters in the past. o_O
Seriously? That’s hilarious. I gotta go find those posts.

Years ago on the other Tennessee board. A fan from another team posted an excerpt from something she had written. She freaked and claimed it violated her copyright and she threatened to have her FBI brother investigate them. It was like something a little kid would do.
