Marine discharged over anti-Obama comments

Had to have done more than post stuff about Obama on his FB page. Unless they changed the regs, only officers were barred from disparaging remarks about the civilian command.

If he enganged in politics while in uniform, which I would bet he did, then he gots to go!

No jokes about Fox News unless you make a joke about a liberal outlet too. Only fair.

I don't think he was joking when he made his original post. Only when he saw how stupid it was did he decide he might toss in a chuckle or two.

It actually was a joke. My only mistake was not taking into account how some posters in this thread might take my comment so seriously for whatever reason.

Will be interesting to see where he does end up.

One can have a lot of fun speculating.

- In nine years as a Marine, Stein never rose above the rank of E-5; not very impressive and certainly not resume-worthy.

- He is now infamous as a birther who will not follow legal orders simply because he personally feels that the President is illegitimate.

- He has obviously demonstrated a lack of prudence, in favor of rashness that borders on or surpasses rashness.

- The Marine Corps. is sticking him with an OTH Discharge and will probably stick him with a diagnosis of mental instability, low-enough on the disability-scale that Stein will not get any benefits from this, but high enough that many employers will, everything above included in their decision, decide that the risk is too great to take on and insure.

Basically, it is highly likely that Stein could turn from a radical, right-wing nutjob to a leftist, groveling at the hand of the government for food and money in a very short time. It is almost poetically just.

Agree. Read quite a few tales of this happening to a number of others screaming of the evils of government programs to help those in need. But, he may become the adopted darling of some individual or group who sees an advantage ($) doing so.

Right, he will either be on the government dole; or, he will be obeying plenty of orders.

As I read the article, he was discharged because:

A statement from the Marines said it approved the findings of a military board, which in March recommended the discharge.

The board found Stein violated rules limiting political conduct by service members.

Can someone explain why a marine should not be allowed to engage in political conduct as long as it does not interfere with his duty?
