They should go after someone like Gregg Marshall.
According to Rivals, they are and he is apparently listening. He is from SC.
Other names include Crean (who is openly saying he wants to interview), Jay Williams says they are vetting Petrino and if he is cleared, Petrino is a major candidate.
The one with most smoke however is Thad Matta. He is interviewing Monday and meeting with physicians to determine his health. A lot of twitter clatter today about the meeting Monday and negotiations could begin today.
This guys name comes up every year for a new coaching position.
Marshall is making stupid money at WS, currently a 4 seed.
Marshall's name is mentioned so much he probably walks around with wood 24-7
Less than 24 hours after being interviewed by school officials, former Ohio State head coach Thad Matta has been offered the top coaching gig at Georgia, Jon Rothsein of CBS Sports reports.
Reports have been swirling around a potential deal between Matta and the Bulldogs since Georgia handed former head coach Mark Fox his walking papers on Saturday following an SEC Tournament quarterfinal defeat against Kentucky.
Georgia earned only two NCAA tournament bids in Fox's tenure, losing in the first round in 2011 and 2015. Fox had a career record of 163-133 at Georgia.
As for Matta, the 50-year-old stepped away from coaching last June due to chronic back problems, amassing a career record of 439-154 while serving as head coach for Butler, Xavier, and most recently the Buckeyes.
A decision on Fox's replacement is expected by Wednesday morning.
took him long enough to find a job though -- imo no better than Howland
I agree. This is anything but a homerun hire... and it's still Georgia bball we're talking about here. There is no passion for basketball there and they have one of the worst arenas in the SEC. Sure, there is a lot of talent that comes out of Georgia but basketball recruiting is a different animal than football. There is no in-state loyalty and nothing stands out about Georgia's program - the venue, fan support and history are all mediocre.
