Mark McGwire finally admits to using Steroids

I understand the debates, all angles and you known what it still does not diminish the utter euphoric glee as I and the rest of the country's collectives jaw drops at the Story lines, fascinations and pure amazement of the Mark Mcgwire and\or Sammy Sosa era.

Baseball knew at the time what was going without a doubt. This includes managers, owners, politicians, the media and in the know fans. The additional money's at the time brought these stories must have been astronomical.

Currently I see the Media, congresses and self serving ownership lambasting of the players and all subsequent debates as hypocritical as hell.

I still think he should make The Hall Of Fame. There I said it.

I'd vote him in.

as would I. The performance enhancer thing has been an issue in baseball for about 75 years.

And people may be upset that Sosa and McGwire were taking steroids, but how soon people forget that those two put a downtrodden game on their back and brought some life back into it.

All the while the owners and Selig all knew what was going on. They reaped the benefits and turned a blind eye. Now they are trying to save face and throw these guys under the bus.

Not disagreeing with you.

But there has been very little research on it. So MM doesn't have to come out and say it made him hit the ball farther.

Not saying he specifically took HGH, but the Bay area scientist who was involved in the Bonds mess, who I believe was the "inventor" of the synthetic product, said it increases strength, agility, recovery time, and even vision. Could have just been pumping his product on 60 Minutes, but that's what he said.

True.

But on that other side of the argument you will have people who will bring up Mickey Mantle hitting moon shots on beer and Greenies.

Common sense tells you that more muscle elasticity and strength will increase bat speed. Just saying until definitive proof is revealed it would be stupid for any of the ones who admitted to juicing say that it made them hit a ball even a foot farther.

Thank God I am my age! MY baseball "heros" were clean. Garry Templeton, Dave Kingmon, Reggie Jacklson, and George Brett. .......

But.....the problem I have is that "PED'S" were not against the rules in baseball at the time. Gaylord Perry cheated (spitters) and he is in the HOF (and he is a grade A @$$)

Mark's brother, Jay, has been all over the news whoring out his book where he tells of Mark and his steroid usage.

Reading the history between those two, it sure is pretty weird.

This.

Don't forget the holier-than-thou sportswriters that turned a blind eye and praised them day and night in 98. I really don't recall that many fans being too concerned with it at the time either.

My argument for 5 years has been that like it or not, steroids were part of the game when these guys played. Retroactively going back and changing the rules because of a purity crusade (that IMO is BS anyway), is beyond ridiculous.

And for what it's worth, when they throw Gaylord Perry out of Cooperstown, then I will change my tune that "cheaters" don't belong there.
