Marshall To Bama?

Marshall is king in Wichita. If he came to Bama or Texas, he would be second fiddle. And after seeing how the Texas AD did Barnes in basically forcing him out, who would wanna coach for him?

I think Marshall holds off until either Cal goes to the NBA (unlikely), Coach K retires (Probably in the next 5 years), or Kansas lets Bill Self go (possible, he has underachieved). I think if Kansas were to open, he would be all over it.

I don't see Marshall going somewhere where he isn't the star of the show. He can ride out success at Wichita State for at least another 3-5 years.

Bama will likely end up with Pitino, and Texas might be able to pull Underwood or Archie Miller. That's just my opinion. I don't think a lot of basketball coaches want to live in the shadows of a football program like Texas or Alabama.

Texas is a lock to get Shaka Smart.

At least Alabama tried, I guess?

That Pitino Jr. hire would be terrible for both sides. Minnesota fans I know are more than okay with him leaving.

All the better. I guess Bama fans can go back to not caring about basketball again.

I don't blame him for passing on Bama. Just because it's in the SEC doesn't necessarily mean it's a better job than Wichita State.

If Texas came calling at Marshall, he's listen, but one reason he's made a name for himself is that he didn't jump at every Power 5 school that called about him. He stayed at Winthrop for many years when he could have moved on, because he never got the offer he wanted. (One of the ones he did want--twice--was Tennessee. )

Marshall turning down Alabama is as good as beating Bama 10 times in a row in basketball. I fear Marshall would have gone Saban and won a championship for them at some point during his tenure. At the very least, have them within reach of a title by taking them to a final 4(s). Bama could still find another good coach but for now, them not getting Marshall is a victory.

Anyone who's established will now demand the same amount they were reportedly offering GM. Either they're going to overpay or take a mid major or assistant who's not seen as the next big thing.
