Martin Flew Back To Missouri Tonight To Talk To His Players.

I can't see why he would. It seems certain he'd be in the first round. Unless something happens to change that, there's no reason for him to return.

Hope he stays....but sounds like he is gone. What do you think about Hopson?

If you believe(Big IF) 'Juicy' Harris then Tobias won't bolt unless he is a guaranteed lottery pick. Which isn't going to happen.

Martin could keep him on board with a reminder that another year of fundamentals and defense could make him a lottery pick in '12.

I am anxious to get the players and recruits reactions. Also can't wait to see the presser tomorrow. I like this hire.

This is precisely the area of Tobias' game that needs the most work (as is usually the case with most supertalented young players when they begin their careers).

I too recall Tobias' father saying he would not bolt for the NBA unless he was top 15 (lottery) material and he probably isn't.

Our new coach apparently has a petigre as a strong defensive coach, so the fit for purposes of keeping Tobias around a little longer seems good.

His draft stock isn't near as certain as Harris'. I'll say this about his decision: Nobody would benefit more from a dose of old school, Gene Keady style toughness than Scotty Hopson.

I'm afraid it might break him.

Wouldn't shock me if he left, don't know if he has it mentally to go through a coaching change to a real disciplinarian.

If they really intend to stick to that plan, he'll be back. I can't see a scenario under which he'd get a lottery guarantee from anyone.

I'm confused now.

Was he in Knoxville today, went back to Missouri, and is in Knoxville tonight?

Or did he get off the plane at 11pm, felt he needed more time with his old players, and went right back to MO?

I'm thinking he was in Knoxville this weekend, then flew back to meet with his team at 7, gather his family, clothes, etc., and then flew back tonight

The more I think about this coach, the more I love him. I just hope he hasn't seen half the bull**** posted on here because his name wasn't mentioned. It's embarrassing.

I agree. Hopson has so much potential and it really came out the later part of the season....well except for the last 4 or 5 games. Still too inconsistant. So much potential...so hopefully Coach can sell him on staying.

Assuming you're right Hat, I'm thinking maybe this was the mysterious "Anthony Grant" sighting from yesterday.

That's interesting.

Am I right in thinking with Kiffin, Bruce and Dooley, they never stepped foot on campus until a few hours before the press conference?
Kiffin had been in Knoxville multiple times before he was hired.

It makes you wonder what kind of backchannels are used so this kind of info doesn't leak out. There was some speculation about Kiffin, but no one (to my knowledge) caught the Martin hire until the press release hit the fax.

Wouldn't be surprised if Scotty leaves because he knows that Coach Martin won't put up with his crap.

I love all the "Scotty has so much potential" sayings thaht are always on here. Its like saying the fat girl has a great personality. It is what it is with him. I say let him go and focus all attention on keeping the one guy(Tobias) that actually does want to work hard and make himself better.

At first i was questioning why we hired him so quickly, but the more i look into it, the more i see that other schools wanted CCM, so if we were convinced he was our guy, it was the right move to pull the trigger early. If he was a candidate for the Missouri job, or if Painter left, the Purdue job, then we definitely needed to hire him when we did

I don't see any reason he can't compete for SEC titles and consistently make the NCAA Tournament with a chance to advance. That's what should be exepected of any Tennessee basketball coach going forward.

Much like my reaction to the Dooley hire, I'm holding opinion until I find out more about Martin...that being said, I "have a feeling" your knowledge on the hire is "just a bit" more extensive than mine...

you still sticking with your statement that this will be a net gain for UT?
