Why did he have to go to the FF if he was going to bring along another scrub from Mizzu State? The last few years have been one huge nightmare for a Vol fans.

Because this one is going to be the Director of Basketball Ops I believe. That still leaves 2 more bench coaches to hire.

What indication do we have of this guy being a scrub?

You are right, I forget we did hire their head coach and we know the Mizzou State BB program was an example of excellence over the last 3 years.

Had a nice 2 years bouncing back from a depleted roster. I am sure Shaka Smart was a scrub 2 years ago as well. Not fair to label the guy a scrub just because we haven't heard of him or because he comes from mid major. Jason Shay came from UWM, was he a scrub too?

Majors knew what he was talking about when he named a portion of our fanbase The Legions of the Miserable.

You seem like someone who would've only been happy had we hired some old, retired fart that would have re-rertired in 3-4 years after taking us nowhere on the promises of greatness. Yet another thread fail by a superficial negavol.

I like how the OP states Tennessee hired someone, calls him a scrub and doesn't even list his name. Nice reporting...

"Was watching this show and there was a guy on it. He sucks"

They won the conference title this past year

Never mind that Wichita State, who just whipped Bammers for the NIT title, btw, just let a huge sigh of relief now that CCM is out of the MVC. Lulz at those thinking they could have done a better hiring job considering all the circumstances. (This directed at OP, not you, Volnbama)

I'm kind of curious why UT didn't just target the Wichita State coach who won the NIT instead of the coach that got eliminated in the 2nd round.

Hmm...

So because Wichita State went farther, their coach is better?

Why not just go head to head if that's the logic you're going to use?

59-56 Missouri State defeats Wichita State
69-64 Missouri State defeats Wichita State

The second game decided the regular season conference champions.

Their coach is better because he's made multiple trips to the NCAA tournament in addition to winning the NIT this year.

Drew Bledsoe was better than Tom Brady.

Being around longer doesn't make you better. It just means you've had more time to showcase yourself. Wichita State was recently coming off a Sweet 16 when Marshall took over. He's had four years and still hasn't gotten them in the NCAA tournament. He already had 8 years of coaching experience prior. Martin took a bunch of jucos and won a conference championship in his third year over Marshall.

Marshall's good, but Martin's tenure at Missouri State was just as impressive as Marshall's has been at Wichita State.

What's hard to comprehend about our coaching search/hire to you? What "proven" coach was going to come here with the current state of our athletic department and pending NCAA allegations? Martin will prove to be a good hire, I'm just afraid our fanbase and dumb rednecks like you won't give him a chance.

Marshall took Winthrop to the NCAA tournament 7 times in addition to winning the NIT this year.

You criticize Marshall for not making the NCAA tournament at Wichita State in 4 years, but Martin didn't make it in 3 years either........

I can understand that question. I thought Marshall would be the guy and I really wanted him to be. That being said, I think it is entirely possible CCM could be a better hire. I like CCM a lot, but I would have been very pleased with Marshall. We got CCM and I understand the hire and gonna give the guy and the entire staff a chance.

They are similar I think winning the NIT this year gives Marshall the edge. I think not making the NCAA tournament and getting eliminated in the NIT in the 2nd round with a team that started 4 seniors and a junior as a disappointing season for Missouri State.

Shaka Smart > Coach K

Wow... irrational much?

There is a huge difference in comparing Martin/Marshall to Coach K/Shaka.

Marshall has coached 12 years and gotten out of the 1st round one time. That hardly makes him superior over a guy who has coached 3 years and turned a bottom feeder into conference champions.

Martin appears to have potential to improve while Marshall has appeared to hit a wall.

Coach K has hit a wall too... his wall just happens to be multiple championships.
