I think what many of these cities are seeing is the backlash from overreaction. Painting all police as villains, pulling them off the streets and out of neighborhoods where they are most needed. And the criminals take over. And people suffer. I feel bad for police officers honestly. They have to deal with the worst amongst us, then once they are jaded by their experiences we demonize them. Yes there are bad officers out there, yes those that are jaded probably need some kind of intervention or monitoring before it manifests in treating people poorly. But the answer isn't too take away resources and ask them to do more with less, that's absolutely the wrong direction to take.
