Cal's sophomore pitcher today, Katie Sutherland-Finch, was a 5'4" dynamo nicknamed "Bulldog" for her tenacity according to her bio. No relation to Jenny Finch, but she pitched like one today absolutely dominating our strong lineup. Our hitters just couldn't solve her tenacious pitching today, i guess. You can't never measure the size of a person's heart by just looking at the size/height. The troublesome thing is that this very same pitcher started 15 games with 31 total appearances in the circle (the most of any Cal pitcher) last year, and posted a 6-5 overall record with 6.36 ERA. That's pretty mediocre any way you look at it.

I'm sure our LVs will bounce back quickly, and this game was basically a home game for the Cal girls, but it would've been nice to have hit a pitcher with 6.36 ERA...

I'm sorry but the guy who does the radio broadcast is absolutely CLUELESS. It is RADIO, man, you have to TALK! He describes one play--one sentence: "And there is a double over the wall"-- and then there is SILENCE for another minute or more until something happens, which he will describe with one sentence and then there will be more extended dead air! He doesn't understand that you have to keep talking--details on plays, players, pitch location, stats for the day, stats for the year, etc. etc. I had to turn it off! He has apparently never listened to a sports broadcast on the radio.

Stephen Lee is the person doing it right now. His primary job is as the media relations contact for the team, so while broadcasting, he is also responsible for scoring the game in the stat program, communicating changes to the opposition media relations person, tweeting the game, and writing the story for the web.

He does these early season games as a service to the fans since the radio can't carry these early season tournaments. It's an extra thing for him to do, and it's not his primary job. UT would like to send the regular broadcaster, but they can't pay him if the games aren't being sold on the radio.

The radio schedule usually begins around the start of SEC play.

Okay boys and girls and smucks of all ages. You'll have to hold the fort and root home the LADYVOLS today for me. I have (thanks to the little Wifey) a previous engagement that precludes me from listening to today's games...... :(

I know you can do it!

Back in the day, that's exactly how baseball was called on the radio - tv also, until it got all talky. I prefer it that way, but you kids are used to constant noise, I guess

Wow I didn't know that the LadyVols plays BYU on March 7th. That should be very interesting.

Not even close! I don't mean to be hard on the guy: I know he's young and not a professional and has several other duties. But, seriously, it was the worst radio broadcast I've ever heard. I've heard high school broadcasts that were much better. Dead air is not a good thing in radio, and it sounds like the guy is not paying attention. And the blog is problematic, too--barely get the most basic info, and not always that. Why don't they add another couple of communications students to all the games (in ALL sports) and let people focus on specific tasks? Would cost nothing for home games and very little extra (food?) for away trips.

Food? How about a plane ticket and hotel?

Obviously, his job entails many tasks and being the radio guy isn't usually one of them. Maybe they should just not even provide the broadcast. But my guess is they have many more people available to help at home. Just not going to spend the money to send them to Tampa and California.

Pitching has held up to many errors and main hitters not hitting a lick.

We have a young team who played very well in Florida even through it was against teams not rated as high as the last two teams. They could also be tired from all the travel during the last ten days or so.

I think we will have a very good record this year, especially if the pitching hols up.

Getting back home and getting some rest will help a bunch.

Disappointing series for Aldrete has struck out with runners in scoring position five times in the last three games.

They're 10-4 and play in the Pac 12...What are you talking about

It's always helpful to dig in to the numbers before you open your mouth. 10 wins accumulated against Long Beach State (3), Idaho, Seattle, cal state northridge, Nevada (2), and UNLV. So yeah try again....insert moron face here.

Gaffin has not hit as well so our big two have gotten about two hits out of 20 at bats in the last three games. They have to drive in runs when they have opportunities and couldn't get it done in last three games.
