CN vs UT is a tradition. They love coming here, and financially it is very beneficial for their program. My understanding is they also use the chance to play at TBA as a recruiting tool. The two schools have close ties, and the first thing they did when arriving after Pat's announcement was buy We Back Pat t shirts. They wore them for warm ups before the game, and took a technical for doing so. They didn't care, wanted to show their respect and support of Pat.
And no, you don't tell your kids to miss shots, play badly, etc. As the old saying goes, you DON'T call a good dog back. But there are things a coach can do to keep from running up the score. If those things are done, then so be it. If those things are not done, then classless (or as the gentleman said, tacky).
One would have to know if MD coach did those things. With their coach's reputation, people are probably assuming they didn't. Unless someone with basketball IQ watched the game, then it is assumption. Maybe someone did watch and can edify.
