Mashack appreciation thread

Agree, and feel like he’s a really good fit for this team. We have enough offensive weapons that he just needs to play within himself on that end of the floor. Would like to see him drive and kick a little more though, as he’s maybe our best player at getting into the lane.
I love Mashack, but Knecht is our best at getting into the lane.

Possibly but over a longer/larger sample size (6 games in this case) it would seem to have some merit.
I respectfully totally disagree.

No matter the sample size, and individual's plus/minus will always be overwhelmingly affected by the performance of the other 4 players the individual has been on the court with. Put me on the court for 50 games with LeBron, Embid, Curry, and Tatum and my plus/minus will be outstanding. Put me on the court for 50 games with 4 fat/slow/short guys and my plus/minus will suck. In either situation, I'm the same player, but my plus/minus is determined NOT by me, but by who I'm on the court with.

It’s a lot more useful as a comparison *within* the same team. It doesn’t totally work because rotations can be quirky but it’s a lot more reliable when the players for whom you’re comparing +/- mostly share the same teammates/circumstances.

I mentioned in another post that I have my doubts about it being a good measurement.

This is my earlier post
“I agree. I just don’t know if it’s a great way to measure someone’s efficiency. Especially for one game. I do think that it may work better to measure a groups effort tho.
For example what is the +/- of
ZZ-Santi-JJJ-Knect-Aidoo compared to Mashack-Gainey-Santi-JJJ-Tobe or Santi-JJJ-Knect-Tobe-Aidoo?
I would find these results more interesting per game and especially over a larger sample size.“

Illinois came into the game hitting 62.2% of their free throws, and hit 24-28 on the night, for right at 86%. According to “history” they should have hit 7 less than they made.

Tennessee came in at 76.2 % and winds up the night hitting 76.5%. Started out pretty slowly but came around in the end.

Go figure….it’s college basketball.
Their big was 2-14 from three this season, and tape basically said back off and let him shoot, so of course he went 3-6 from there.

He has had a hand injury for most of this year, but made like 55 threes last year. Said his hand had felt better recently.

In today's world of college basketball it is becoming rare for a kid to stick it through as a bench/role player for multiple years instead of hopping around programs looking for playing time. Mashack has come such a long way. He looked completely confident and in control tonight. His ceiling is really high and it is coming together real nicely for him.

I wish him the best. He’s earned it!

He's at 43.8% from 3 which obviously isn't sustainable but if he can hover around 35% while keeping up his FT % considering he was a sub 60% FT prior seasons will be a massive boost for the team.

Right now he’s one of the most efficient scorers that I’ve seen playing for UT. He rarely forces his shots. Often it’s Jamai’s baskets that end the scoring droughts.

I think 40%+ 3 point percentage is sustainable for a non-volume shooter. A few guys seem to do it every year in the SEC. JMO

I have watched some of Mashack's scrimmage films and he can absolutely ball. I understand it is against his teammates, but I have seen some impressive drives. I do love this kid, if only for his defense.
