Does anyone else think it will be a massive letdown and major reputation blow for Kiffin and Co. if Marlon Brown signs with UGA or Ole Miss?

He's made such a big deal out of fencing in the state, he's made at least 3 visits to Brown, and then the #1 in-state, undecided prospect STILL goes elsewhere?

I think it would be quite a body blow.

Depends on if we get others such as Teague, Jeffery, Patterson, Stokes, etc.. Getting Teague away from Florida would offset it. Getting an outstanding receiving class would offset it.

Marlon liked UGA before Kiffin was even here... So no, it wouldn't reflect poorly on Kiffin & Co.

Yeah and I'd say if Kiff had more time to recruit him, and then didn't get him that it would be a different story.

Given the short period of time the staff has been here, I think if Brown comes it has a more positive impact, than if he doesn't commit. I think next season will be the big recruiting year when they can show what their plan is for this team and a full season of recruiting will help.

Liked UGA, sure...but Brown was completely undecided.

Relax.... Kids of this caliber can often go anywhere so they usually end up where they feel most "comfortable". UGA, and others, have been on MB for a couple of years and CLK (and staff) have been on him for 6 weeks.

Overcoming two years of relationships is a daunting task.... It's very unrealistic for every kid to make a 4-5 year decision based on a 6 week relationship.

Tennessee has sent multiple coaches to watch his basketball games and to speak with him at his school. TN has definitely eclipsed Richt in terms of effort and frequency. I won't be shocked if he signs with UGA, but he is a statement pickup. If he was based in Oregon, we obviously wouldn't have spent so much effort on him.

We can replace the talent in next year's class and it's not like he's going to serve as a measuring stick for 2010.

We have a solid class with people who are going to contribute early. It won't be the end of the world to lose Marlon Brown. We can still finish 10-15 in both polls by signing some of our other targets.

I don't think we had a chance with the old staff. IMO he was a UGA lean before Lane come in.

No way, dude. Any time there is a coaching change, recruits waver. Even if we don't have any suprises on NSD, I think the staff has done well. They will build a fence....but a fence isn't built in 2 months!

A let down, yes. a MAJOR or MASSIVE letdown, no. IMO Marlon can make the class but not break the class. PLEASE remember Kiffin's only had 2 months to build a relationship while others have had 2 years. He's only had his staff together for a month or so. I hope and think Marlon will be on the HIll when it's all said and done. But, if he's not, we move on and make champions out of the ones that want to be here.
His reputation is that of a tireless worker and a great recuriter. Losing one race when everyone else had a 22 month lead will not change that one bit. For the time he has had the job what he has done should be viewed as nothing short of amazing. Look at the list of studs that are looking at us that never even considered us before he showed up. Let's give the man at least a full year before we question his reputation and ability.
If it's a body blow it won't be his first or his last.

The same thing is being said on all the message boards."Will this be a blow if we dont get so and so and so etc, etc." CLK has been on the job for 8 weeks or so, fully staffed
for only a week or so.Please give him a chance, this recruiting season may not be top 10
or it might, no differnce next year will be when we see the real results he can produce.

From CLK interview:

Q: Even with the impressive list of recruiters you’ve hired, was this year’s signing class still going to be a patchwork effort?

KIFFIN: “Oh, yeah. We’re two years behind with this class. Now that our staff’s here, by the time a kid signs with us, we’ll be two years into the guy and have two years’ worth of relationships with him, and the people around him. But we’re going on two weeks of relationships with some of these kids right now, so it’s a very difficult situation, but one we’ve just got to try to make the best out of.”

Q: Has being the UT head coach helped you get a foot in the door with some of these kids, even late in the process?

KIFFIN: “I think we’re in a lot of peoples’ top three. We’ll see how we close here. But once again, to be that far behind, it’s hard for a kid and a family to make a decision when they’ve known the guys you’re going up against for two years and they’ve known your staff for two weeks.”
