Rick Barnes is my favorite coach. I know he is the best man for the job, love the way he recruits and has built our program/culture.

One thing I wish he would do however Is recruit a freakish sized Center every year like Painter does at Purdue. The boilmakers always seem to get those giants and they are very hard to stop because of their length inside.

Look at Zach Eddey. He is unstoppable due to his size. He will get double teamed and throw the ball to an open player, over the defenders heads without jumping. Just unstoppable in the post

Wish we could get players like Fall, eddey, etc!

Lol @ "freakish size center". I totally agree though he seems to find that guy who is one of 25 most tallest humans in the world each year. Florida State did that for a while. They can have a 2 inch vertical and dunk.

Yeah and just having a monster like that really disrupts the other team

Imagine having a 7'5 center just rim run all night lol

I was telling my 19 yr old son how most teams had a “big man” in the 80’s and 90’s. Then the game changed with the three ball.

The 7 foot Europeans were found by NBA scouts but didn’t post up, rather would shoot the three ball.

I miss the game being played inside out with most teams having a big man: Ralph Sampson (though I despise UVA as I was a huge UNC fan as a kid in VA) , Hakeem (he had a midrange jump shot), Patrick Ewing (I despise Georgetown), the Twin Towers, Shaw, UNC’s numerous big men in Brad Daughtery (sp), etc.

I’ve lived in Spring Hill, TN since 2000. I grew up in Roanoke, VA (70’s-80’s) and graduated high school in 1989. I attended a community college after taking a yr off after high school. Then I transferred to UT in 1992.

I still don’t recall why I chose TN. I never visited the campus nor ever been to Knoxville. I recall reading about different colleges at my jr college’s library. 😆

NC State from 72 to about 77. Tom Burelson and Chuck Hevitt. 7'4" and 7'5".

Hewitt would come into a Total Wine and just reach up to the cases on top 4 high and pull one down. I could barely reach one on a ladder.

JP Estrella on Instagram: "️️"

Get familiar with JP Estrella because he is the type of player that you have in mind. 6'11 big that grew 8 inches since his freshman year. He's a threat from 3, but also has a nice post game. Expect him to gain the weight and be an all timer big man at UT. He's the type of Big 10 player that you see wrecking havoc inside and wishing he was on your squad.

By freakish sized center I assume he’s referring to the 7’2”+ type guys

In addition to the big men, Painter also recruits a strong wing/combo guard to keep D's honest. I agree though with @JoAllan, it certainly hasn't helped him reach the promised land over the years. Excellent coach with a knack for recruiting the right guys for his system, but it simply hasn't panned out.
