Doug Roth is the only dominant one. All time great, but those are centuries in the making.[/QUOTEfamily member? Roth was not dominant and would rather take the 15 footer than post up. Good player but a non fear factor for opponents

Yeah Big Tom was a 2time All SEC guy and 10 yr starter in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls

Shared before, but pretty late the night before Tom's last home game he was at my house and shot a few hoops on driveway goal thrilling me and my high school age buddies who were there for a pickup game. I did have a great goal and good lighting, though the court did have a little of a sidehill lie. He was there to be a part of a four person team project for some health class and my sister was the only non dorm member with a place to meet in our Deane Hill home. He did scare me seriously sliding around my asphalt driveway in his huge custom ordered leather soled Bass Weejuns. One of my many overly blessed Vol youth opportunities.

In addition to the big men, Painter also recruits a strong wing/combo guard to keep D's honest. I agree though with @JoAllan, it certainly hasn't helped him reach the promised land over the years. Excellent coach with a knack for recruiting the right guys for his system, but it simply hasn't panned out.

didn’t say it hasn’t “panned” out: said “hasn't helped a LOT more”

Simply has having a giant helped more?

Folks seem to “want height.” They do all the time. However I’m just saying, that alone ain’t going to get Tennessee further than they want to be.

Over the past 10 years Purdue they have been 10th and 12th the same as they have been 1st in the Big.

Painter, Great coach, however if Barnes felt he “needed” a freakish sized center he would probably recruit and land them. Freakish “size” centers ain’t going to help Tennessee just because of size.

In my opinion

didn’t say you said it hasn’t planned out. I said that. If the ultimate goal is to win championships, the size hasn’t helped Painter achieve what every coach and team on the floor is going for.

I got what you said about their finishes over the past several seasons with the likes of Haarms, Haas, and Eddy most recently and agreed.
