MAYS The MVP?

It certainly looked that way , the entire team played better, especially Joe --who seemed much more comfortable, (And said it himself) Mays seems to be the Coach on the field. If Cooper wasn't out vs floruda, the Vols roll them.
The problem at Florida was the crowd noise. Not sure how much Cooper would have helped, though certainly some.

Mays doesn't play defense. The defense gave up 26 first half points to Florida
The dynamics of what the offense does plays a big role in the play calls and drives and changes the whole complexion of the game and effects the D completely. To just say Mays don't play D & they scored 26, is shortsighted and taking on the persona that the O turns the ball over to UF at the same clip no matter what. One series can change the whole game dynamics its is a game of inches. Also IMO Mays & Mincey & Lane moving to a more suited guard is our best O-Line. These 3 things were missing the complete game at the swamp.

He certainly seems to be the key to that inside running game. Got them into plays much faster too. This is a run first team at this point. Not nearly as balanced as last year..

I would absolutely vote for Cooper May as the MVP at this point in the season.

The average fan has no idea how critical the center's defense recognition and blocking calls are, to the quarterback as well as to general execution.

It absolutely helped. Nobody ever talks about line calls and protections, but that's probably the quickest way to get an offense to work. Still hard to say though how good South Carolina really is.
They are NOT good and ranked 126 in passing defense (only 130 teams) and 74 in rushing d.

Not to mention they had multiple starters out and their o line was dismantled.

One more time. I'm a bit of a numbers guy so...at Florida, we had Mays and Mincy (for some reason) out. That's 40% of the OL....GONE! Add to that Lane now has to play out of position. That's 60% gone or compromised. Add on top that we are playing on the road, in the swamp with an OL that has not played a game with the starting players in these new positions. That's a recipe for disaster and it was. Our OL was at less than 50% strength for that game IMHO. For those that think we now have the depth of the top teams in the SEC, think again. We are thin and cannot survive many injuries to our starters.
