McCain a Socialist?

I, for one, are glad we have amendments. And I'd bet every African-American and woman is too, for starters.
I know it doesn't help in your effort to mince words, but amendments are a part of the constitution.

was there some implication that I'm not glad there are amendments?

You're not really parroting Whoopi Goldberg's idiotic question of John McCain, are you? When she asked if McCain wants her to be a slave again since McCain wants to appoint constructionist judges to the bench instead of judicial activists?

so what does someone mean when they say we should stick to the constitution? I mean, if we can change it, anyone can say they want to adhere to the constitution, right? anyone.

Individuals with proper motivation are the route to the extraordinary. Resources they can figure out.

Your second sentence should send a news flash to your first one.

Nobody just "figures out" resources. You get them by collecting (yep, I'm using that word) from numerous sources. The bigger the goal, the more collecting you need to do.

There are many places to do your collecting. Family, company, neighborhood, church, and of course government, to name a few. I'd love to see First Baptist take on the mission of developing Internet technology. I'd love to see Mayo Garden Stores develop clean coal technology and wind and solar and biofuels. I'd love to see West Hills Neighborhood negotiate peace treaties and help people find cures for diseases.

I mean, we don't need government, do we? Let's let it get out of the way so that these motivated individuals can garner the resources on their own. That'll put us ahead.

judges and government attorneys have nothing whatsoever to do with the amendment process, so it's immaterial to the point about activist government, right? Bueller?

wonder how our country got here? Guess they turned to the gov't.....oh, wait, they told the taxing gov't to kiss their collective ass.

Our free markets have developed one helluva lot more solutions for man that any government program has ever considered putting forth.

Peace treaties are legit executive gov't function, so you can keep those.

Just curious as to why the Chinese, with 1.3 billion people, turn out drastically less human solutions than the US, which has only 300 million people? Wonder what that's about? Their government certainly tries hard.

I won’t presume to speak for what others may mean when they say “we should stick to the Constitution.” For me it boils down to what you believe is the function of the Constitution. I believe the function and purpose of the Constitution is to guarantee the rights of the American citizenry by restricting the actions of the government. The Framers had the foresight to realize that they weren’t perfect in naming all the rights that would need to be protected. So they made the allowance for future generations to protect the American citizens from an ever growing and increasingly intrusive government.
