McCain's affairs - at what cost?

It was his actions that led to all the investigations, especially after playing word games after he was caught. All that distraction led to the accelerated development (that went unchecked) of many of the issues we are dealing with today. Would they have still happened? Probably so but we will never know to what extent they could have been curtailed.

He was a big idiot the entire time, and no doubt he's a huge egomaniac. But why did they care in the first place? Was the affair criminal?

You are making a huge assumption to say you know everything that went down with Clinton while he was in office. I am 100.000000% sure you do not know.

What proof do you have that our country was jeopardized by Clinton's affairs?

not at all. I'm saying that it has to help Obama if your point about where our major concerns lie is correct. Clearly, if we discount real qualifications like leadership and experience, Obama gets a boost, no?

if we keep talking about affairs, I feel pretty confident Obama comes out on top.

disengenuous. The investigation didn't start with the affair. The affair came in when lies about it started popping up in the main investigation.

I have proof he is a liar, and most notably a liar to his family. My past experiences in life tell me I'd not trust these type of people as far as I can throw them.

so you really buy the drivel that the ongoing investigation kept Clinton from actually doing his job? I don't buy it in the least. That was just lame politics to try and make the fact that he lied to a grand jury go away.

I'm not concerned about him protecting his family from the truth, but once it got to the grand jury, he knew full well it was time to tell the truth, but he couldn't do it.

I think both he and those in his circle spent way too much time trying to discredit the investigation when it was obvious he was no longer protecting anyone, the story was already out there and his family had to be aware of all the rumors of the women in his past. I think it was a piss poor excuse and the fact that he chose not to come clean and admit the obvious caused him to use to valuable resources that could have been used more effectively elsewhere. Bottom line he deserves the blame for that fiasco and partial blame for the terrorism that went unchecked during his presidency.

the investigation of this affair started with this affair. To say it wasn't politically motivated is bogus. They couldn't get him on anything else, but they could smear him with this.

It is part of todays politics, right or wrong both sides play the "gotcha" game. He was "got" and refused to admit and before all was said and done he turned it into a legal matter.

so, if you were to find out before the election that McCain actually had an affair with Vicki Iseman, which would mean he lied about it, will you not vote for him?

He couldn't have kept the terrorism from going unchecked. He had gutted the intelligence services and military during the first term. There could have been no investigations of any sort anywhere, and we weren't going to do anything about terrorism and Clinton would not have authorized had we possessed the capability.

That still puts much of the blame on him doesn't it?

so Ken Starr's position existed for this purpose?

I can assure you that you start hiding stuff from a federal investigator and he catches wind of it, he's hanging you out to dry, regardless of who you are.

Probably not. Not that big a fan of his anyway. If he has not been able to disconnect from his lying ways, then I'd feel he is too easily purchased as well.
