Exactly, Leslie probably moved down because he excels by playing smart, fundamental basketball.
For example, someone like O.J. Mayo can score 30 points, but he has to take 20 to 25 shots to score those points. One of Leslie's biggest strengths is efficiency. He consistently scores 25 points while only takes 10-15 shots per game.
Ultimately, McDonald will be the player we HAVE to get in the class of '09. My reasoning behind this is simple.
1. While he could be a one-and-done, he has the mindset and the academic success that will make him stay three or four years.
2. As I stated above, his efficiency. While he does it all the time for us at Briarcrest, he may only have three or four games in his college career where he goes for 30+ points, 8+ rebounds, 6+ assists. But night to night, he will give his team 18 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists.
3. He plays his best in big games. With the new era at Tennessee, big games are becoming more common. In games against Florida, Kentucky, Ohio State, Kansas, Memphis, Xavier. In the biggest games of the past two seasons at Briarcrest, here are his numbers:
37 points vs. MRA
29 points, 17 rebounds vs. Overton
34 points, 10 rebounds vs. White Station (Joe Jackson)
26 points, 12 rebounds vs. Covington
21 points, 11 rebounds vs. Paducah-Tilghman (KY)
25 points, 14 rebounds vs. Ridgeway (state champions)
28 points, 7 rebounds vs. Father Henry Carr (top-ranked prep team in Canada)
23 points vs. Team Urspring (top-ranked prep team in Germany) (two seniors going to Miami, Nebraska; junior ranked first in all of Germany)
26 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals vs. Archbishop Carroll (DC) (Kansas St. signee, Syracuse signee) (championship game of Arby's Classic - MVP)
32 points, 12 rebounds vs. CBHS
24 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals vs. NE Lauderdale (MS) (Romero Osby)
28 points, 8 rebounds vs. ECS (final four of state tournament)
15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 6-6 FTs vs. CBHS (state championship)
If Leslie chooses to attend Tennessee, I have no doubt in my mind he will become one of the top players in school history.
