I might be wrong, but I do not think that is correct. We have to cut a certain amount of scholarships by the end of our probation, and we can choose to do that how we want. Just like we cut a ginormous amount the first year Heup was here, as part of a self induced penalty.
The ruling was at least 2 per year. We gave ourselves wiggle room bc we could count the self-imposed reductions we’d done before the ruling to help meet the total over the course of the entire probation. We could determine year to year how many below 83 we wanted to go but 83 was the max on any given year.

Agreed. No pooping on the potential commitment but AP cant cite how Cameron Sparks took no OVs this summer as a red flag and then we just gloss over it here.

Chop and Garner know what they’re doing but just wondering what the story is.
I agree and thought the same thing. I wonder if no visits in June were perhaps his own decision because he already had it narrowed down to tOSU and Tennessee and was just taking that time to process his decision. Just spitballing because on the surface, you're right. It can't be viewed as a negative for Sparks and just ignored for Smith without there being some explanation.

I don’t think the no OVs in June was the issue with Sparks.

From what I’ve read and heard, he has a handler (family member?) making his recruitment difficult . And I think he only wants to play offense, and our staff doesn’t necessarily see a plan for him at WR. We obviously don’t need any more TEs.

If Cam is open to defense, I wouldn’t be surprised if we circled back.

As for Smith, he’s exactly the kind of player I want to give to CRG. Wouldn’t you rather these kids visit on a game day anyway? Not exactly getting the full experience on a June visit.

If Sparks would accept a move to LB, I wouldn’t even waste the resources on Harmon or Perlotte.

Would also have an easier path to playing time.

From the NCAA's website:

"A reduction in football scholarships by a total of 28 during the term of probation, including at least two scholarships each year.
  • Tennessee previously self-imposed and is credited with 16 scholarship reductions from the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years."

Right, I'm just noting what AP said and that it's a red flag to not make any visits in June, whatever the reason unless just a personal choice.

For sparks it is more than just no visits. It is also the way he is being handled and is the primary reason schools are backing off
What exactly does “the way he’s being handled” mean?

You’d figure after seeing all these schools back off you after previously being a nationally ranked recruit that you would have the feedback to know what was going wrong and then cut the cord with NPA and try to salvage your recruitment before you end up at like UCF or something.

Sorry for talking about cam sparks in Darrion smith thread. I didn’t start it for what it’s worth.
