fair enough. just seems super early. in on some big time players.
Do you also think the other commitments we have are too early and we should deny their commitments?. I think not. Our coaches are pretty good at evaluating talent and all one has to do is look at the Freshmen we had on the field yesterday.

Recruiting services are far from an exact science to say the least. Ive followed recruiting since 2000. During that time, rule of thumb has been more 4/5 star calibre players, more talented a roster & corollary for continued success at a high level.

Is that always the case? No, but there is a corollary between being stacked with top 100 players. We are in the discussion for many of these players in this cycle.

So, either the services, post covid have just fallen off that much. Or, these coaches know better than 90% of CFB world. Again, i'm asking questions to discuss.
All that to agree with my statement per your MO.

Here's another per Gage Gunther.

Kid at least had SEC offers, and some BG12 offers. Makes more sense. But why take either this early? Im still lost.

Makes me feel like they dont have a ton of confidence in their ability to close.

It's your MO. The services are obviously right, so go on questioning whether our coaches can be trusted to spot and pull the talent they need. Go on talking down our recruits when they commit. SMDH.

If you've been following recruiting for 20 years, you should have better spent the time learning to scout talent so you wouldn't have to blindly trust pay services. You could stop biting your fingernails.

Our average commit rankings are shrinking. This class is starting to look like last year's more or less. Also, I noticed that ALL our commits dropped in the rankings. What's up with that? Seems like the stars are aligning for us to finish with a class outside the top 10.

Yeah probably top 15., Or maybe top 8.
In which case you still won't be able to tell the difference regardless.

Seven months away from ESD, and an entire season to play, and you're seeing signs in the heavens, huh? Tell us more, prophet, so that we may hear.

That's the @Jackcrevol MO. Assume due to star rankings the recruits our coaches want are lower quality. He's either assuming that they are worse at scouting talent than the services, and/or they are incapable of landing who they need. The possibility that the services are slower/worse than our staff at scouting for our schemes just doesn't seem to be conceivable.

Maybe one day we can get those recruiting ranking banners hung in the stadium.
I have zero doubt about Heupel & Staff's evaluations. They've proven they can get more from less. Not saying this guy is an average player (I think he's better than the services say), but even if he is, these coaches can get what they need out of him to win.

St Francis plays a physical brand of football.

About 4 years ago. Mater Dei played beat St. Francis because of the magic of Bryce Young.
But that was the most physical high school football game I had EVER seen. St Francis was more physical but had no answer for Bryce Young. I've watched ball in Florida, Texas, and the Carolinas. Georgia and Tennessee too.

But man...The kid ?
Is a terror! Holy crap this dude is scrappy.

3 star ranking I'm fine with, but he's still going to be a really good player. He's can't be blocked and his open field tackling is elite!

Another nice piece to the puzzle!

We're 9 commits into this class and the average ranking is about the same as last year's. Plus were hovering around 10th right now just like last year....

I have zero desire to scout talent. ****, I honestly dont care what a hs kid does. Just want tennessee to get better. For the first time in a long time we could close a top 5-7 class, hope we do.

And with significantly less talent than that Heupel just missed the playoff in his 2nd year. If you don't believe the guy knows talent, coaching, and development then I guess you'll just have to whine that a bunch of journalists aren't drooling over the players Heupel wants.

We'll be fine. The Vols are in on some very highly ranked players and will 100 percent get some of those. Consistently recruiting in the top 5 takes time and you have to prove to the future players that you are legit. If I had to bet, we should finish ranked 8 to 10. This staff has proven that they can take 3 star guys and turn them into solid players. According to some services, Chaz Nimrod was a 3 star. He looks like a future pro now. Jalen Wright was a 3 star on some sites because he needed to gain weight. Now he has, and is a legit SEC back. Yes, Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia consistently recruit in the top 5, and that is a big reason for their success. However, if you stay in the top 15 every single year, throw in a couple of top ten classes on top of that, and develop your players then you can still win and win big. This will be a top 10 class.
