Measuring sticks in recruiting

We need good players to win. Bama needs good players to win. Everybody needs good players to win. I don't understand what you're measuring.

Basically u need 5*s and not to face the mighty Saban perhaps cuz he's the man.

USC is the closest program to compare to Saban's dominant Bama run. Pete Carroll and his mighty rosters of 5 and 4*s crumbled down eventually too at USC. Pete went 6-6 his 1st season then went 67-7 after that with back-to-back NC's and a NC loss to Texas. With NCAA sanctions looming and the quick rise of Oregon and Stanford...the mighty Carroll finally started to get his dished right back to him. So he abandoned ship for multiple reasons......but he was on his way down at the time.

Point is nothing lasts forever. Carroll looked unstoppable at one point like Saban....but eventually other programs figure you out and catch up.

So begins our RiSE TO THE TOP! And I hope Saban and Kiffin are still there when we kick Bama's ass finally!

These things happen in cycles. Examples: ND, Texas, Bama, OSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, FSU, Tennessee, and the list goes on and on. Programs may be on top for a decade or so followed by a decline. The Vols will be back

We are all elated to be back in the realm of top ten recruiting classes. I know I am. We look at who we are getting and likely to get and we think, "It's Great To Be A Tennessee Vol!" And it is.

But I think we are prone to use our recent past as a measuring stick to see how well we are recruiting. Since we are doing better than we were, we feel good. We've moving from a 4-cylinder to an 8-cylinder stable of players, so what's not to like?

But then we look in Nick Saban's stable and see that he has a Bugatti Veyron.

According to 247 sports, Alabama has 11 top 100 commitments, and we have one. I know we will get more, but...I think you see my point.

Alabama is the measuring stick for us, not our recent past.

247 is wrong. Our Players are better.

One thing is for certain. Bama can't get any higher and UT can't get any lower.

This is simply called building a program. Totally unfair to compare Alabama's current success with our building blocks. Go play in the friggin street.

Yeah, now that Nick has gotten a raise he has been buying better cars for those top 100 recruiting kids, in time the BS will be exposed.

Alabama is on an unprecedented run in recruiting. Their 2015 class will make the 5th consecutive #1 class they've had. To my knowledge, no other program has EVER had that many consecutive #1 classes. I don't even think Florida State during their dominant run had that many #1 classes.

So to say that Alabama is the measurng stick for us is simply not realistic because they are in an era of dominance rarely seen.

While Alabama is the gold standard they're not the only team we're competing against. 24/7 had us ranked 7th in the nation so only 6 schools did better. I'll take that every single year.

You went new thread, 720 characters, Bugatti reference to tell us Bama has recruited better than us the past few years and thats how we need to measure ourselves.
Think most of us knew that, longggggg offseason

Quite true, although USC was very close under Pete Carroll. Using only Rivals' ratings, they finished 3rd in 2003, 1st in 2004, 2005, and 2006, then 2nd in 2007, before falling back to 8th in 2008 and 4th in 2009.
