I recently picked this up as well, great book. I find it very interesting the similarities between ole miss' depth chart when Orgeron came in and UT's now; QBs, DB's, and both lines. Its interesting how fast he got some decent talent to ole miss after taking over.

Coach O brought in some great talent.. .and then couldn't do jack with it. He just wasn't much of head coach. Nutt is using O's talent and actually getting something out of them. Snead will be a high first round pick by the end of the season.

but he's one of the best recruiters in the nation and a good d-line coach, so he's right where he needs to be. At least for now. Let him bring in the talent and hopefully CLK will develop them into a great team.

IMO Coach's downfall at Ole Miss was his staff. The Rebs just didn't want to pay the money for the O and D coordinators. Coach O hired them so it must fall back on him, but they were not much to brag about.

CLK had the money to assemble a great staff and it will show on the field and with the talent levels of the program.

The way I see it...Ole Miss gave O a 4yr deal. O was pulling some players but he couldnt find a qb other than Shaeffer. His 4th yr that was supposed to be his make or break year was denied and they gave what he had built to a Nutt(+ a for real qb). An eligible Jevan Snead was the only difference in Ole Miss two years ago and last year. Better game day coach....please...Solid qb play was the difference. I'm so glad things happened the way they did or O wouldnt be a Vol. Thank you Ole Miss, for not giving O his 4th year. The VolNation salutes you. Ole Miss will drop back off the radar in 2 years.

I followed Coach O pretty close at the time and personally know people who worked for him. He wasn't a very good Head Coach. It wasn't his staff, it was him (though many on his staff didn't help). I doubt very seriously Ole Miss would have been to a bowl game last year with O at the helm.

Where he is now is where he needs to be. Recruiting and working for someone like CLK.

Nice...BTW...I firmly believe that God doesn't send people to Hell he sends them to the Miami airport. I cannot begin to explain how many hours of my life have been wasted sitting in that dump...

P.S. Meat Market is fantasitc...even if you don't like football...a very interesting read.

You give Nutt way too much credit then. O built a team from the inside out. The only thing he lacked was a qb. Snead is one of the top 5 qbs in college. To be a good head coach, you have to get good players and you have to win. He did the first part very well. He wasnt given time to do the second.

Which is why I think we NEED a quality QB.

I think that you cannot really fairly assess Coach O's head coaching abilities at Ole Miss without giving him the chance to complete 3-4 years at the university. He got the talent and you need the time to see if he can really put all the pieces together. Coach Nutt could not have come in to Ole Miss at a better time. The guys O recruited were coming into veteran positions with a lot of experience.

I am glad they fired O. We got him and we are putting him in the best role possible for his talents. Recruiting Guru and Dline Guru

Spurrier does, he just can't admit it.

Picked up my copy today, finally. They had it at Books-A-Million and Barnes and Noble, both. Had to hit both places for back to school books for the boys.

Can't wait to get into it!!

Can I borrow it when you're done ?

I read this book and it really gives you the feel of what O is all about. Intensity and passion on a level unheard of. You get to love Ed O after reading the book, and you have to be ecstatic that he is on our team.

I just worry about his health.

Yeah,

Ed O is a massive heart attack waiting to happen

Yea, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall the night those kids were arrested for "disturbing the peace" and were ordered to meet with Coach O that night at 2am.

Yeah,

That was an intense moment in the book. He might have blown out an O ring.

He completed three years and went 0-8 in the conference in year three, in addition to alienating virtually everyone. He would have been envious of Vice-Pres. Cheney's approval ratings.

:lolabove: :eek:lol:

At the end of the day, I just don't think Eddie O had much of a coaching staff backing him up. It turned into a mess.

I just finished 'Meat Market'. Very good book. I'm glad Coach O is on the UT staff currently. It is a good read...I recommend it.

Loved it! I mean Joe McKnight almost went to Ole Miss... really? Can't wait to see who the staff has in store for us!

Currently reading it as well... only 2 chapters left. It really is a fun book to read, and I am not a reader at all. Other than for school assignments, I can't remember the last book I read for fun. Definitely recommend it!

I'm the same way, but i'm about half way through it right now. I love how Coach O wasn't even on the staff when it was released, but there are still a ton of UT refrences and a few UT players frequently mentioned i.e Mr. Chris Walker. haha
