Media bias

The media is composed of human beings. Of course they're biased. All of us are. If you point out the media bias, which is real, they'll point out your bias, which is also real.
And if the first four make the cut for New York, Hooker was not snubbed. Since he finished fifth in the voting. Hat-boy was invited to New York because he did finish in the top 4 (4th). Zero touchdowns and under 200 yards passing @ Georgia took Hooker out of serious Heistman consideration.

Do some of you have nothing better to do then sit around and find ways to get offended?

Exactly, but it seems to be the way of the world now. Probably always been this way, it's just since the advent of social media giving everyone a megaphone to air their grievances 24-7-365 do we get the endless "the world is against me".

They talked about the Heisman winner and his teammates, guys who are repeat AAs, and the 4 teams in the playoffs and who from those 4 teams made AA teams, with the exception of the Texas RB, who is in the backfield with the Heisman winner so there's that connection, which you failed to complain about. My god, it's not that difficult, and it certainly is not this big conspiracy.

Would love to see the geographical distribution of the voters and who they voted for. That might show the need for a better distribution plan. It might be natural to be influenced by which games you are following in your normal work duties.

Here are last years results by regions. Haven’t seen this years results by regions but based on last year, seems each region has pretty much the same number of votes.

Can we as fans stop looking for reasons to be butt hurt by media articles? It's like such fans insist on being battered Vols. Id' rather read/listen to articles about BBQ recipes for chicken, beef, bison, elf, mutton, and other game meats. Or recipes for dandelion-turnip greens recipes, creamed stinging nettles dishes, roasted taro root, anything other than something to feel victimized by. Screw media, long live good eating!

We can point fingers and blame the Heisman electors, media bias and anything else you can dream up but had we not lost to Georgia and South Carolina all would be right with our world. We'd be in the playoff with a chance at the National Title.
I could care less who is recognized for awards and who is not at this point. Do you feel better about where this team is because Hyatt won an Award or Hooker made 3rd team All-American? Do you feel "good" because we finished the season 10-2 when we could be 12-0 with a chance to win the SEC and move onto the playoff? Nobody should feel good about any of this to be honest. Ten win seasons only do one thing................................... they get you fired. (See Mark Richt)

If you look at the actual votes he didn’t come close at all. Either did Stroud, actually. Bennett was clearly a token invitee just to build suspense and tension.

and to p*** off Vol fans!

It worked!

Go Vols!

Thanks for the requested data, at least for last year. Love to see this years data in a much more contested race.

Edited to add the following map showing the regions with votes a few years back. Looks to me it is time to redraw the zones. What the heck is the NE doing getting roughly the same votes as the South? They should be added back in with the midwest and share a single share of votes FOR EXAMPLE. The recent conference realignments should be considered as well in getting a distribution in line with the institutions that are putting guys on the ballot. Imagine the impact going forward of the West votes following USC and UCLA to add to the Midwest. In reality the south should be divided up into two zones Pushing most of the SEC west schools into the SW and picking up SC and maybe NC, Possiby Virginia. Probably add the rest of Mid Atlantic in with Midwest and NE. Needs more than 10 minute analysis, but clearly not fairly distributed as it stands.

Do I feel what!!?? I'm not the one who posted the whine thread titled: Media bias
I am the one who posted a disappointment of Vols fans whining about media bias. I just wish they'd stop whining about it. And just enjoy being a Vols fan, and our good fortune, and when we have bad fortune, cheer all the more for our team. To hell with the media and their bias. Whining and raging about it won't do anything to our benefit, so why bother with them at all?

Then why did Hooker get SEC offensive player of the year over Stetson? Isn't it the full body of work? And if not, shouldn't it be? He finished fifth in the Heistman voting because of media bias toward the quarterbacks of the best teams.

Why in the world would the northeast region have such a large say-so? They don't play any big-time football there.

Boston College and Syracuse I guess lead the few relevant teams up there. But that map sure put a different spin on results by region. Gotta believe that sports writers up there are WAY more versed in NFL than NCAA. On top of that they could allocate votes to the regions with no requirement to keep the numbers close to each other. Allocate votes to regions based NOW per number of FBS teams, possibly sum of P5 and G5 teams in each region. Unlikely with the portal that any serious contender will not make their way to that level. How many votes does Jacksonville FL get on Hockey awards? Or should.

Note that the northeast region includes NYC, where the sportswriters think they know everything about everything.

Apologies.......could have worded it differently. I wasn't actually focusing in on YOU. It was for everyone whining about any/everything concerning our Vols.........including me.

Text minus direct face to face visual cues does that type of thing. And boy! Do I remember some resultant explosive stuff during my FidoNet days. Which IIRC, was the reason and birthplace of ASCII emoticons which are the pappy of today's emojis. But stuff still happens.
