Media Days - Crowder, AJ, Maggitt

Interesting that UTSports has Maggitt listed as a DE. I know he'll play a hybrid position between both, but I was under the impression he'd be primarily an LB. Thoughts ... Or maybe I'm just way behind the curve?

I agree with you often and also think Worley will be much better in 2014, however coaches often use these opportunities to put a different kind of stress on their leaders. Not taking Worley causes me some concern about how much Jones expects from him next year.

Yes, it leaves the door wide open for Dobbs to kick it down and win the job. As for Peterman, I hope he's ready if the both get injured.

Dave Hooker reported on his show today that UT announced that Maggitt had been moved to DE full time.

In seriousness, UT is taking two deserving Srs (well at least two guys we shouldn't expect to see in Orange in '15) who are likely the best Sr's on the team and then their Jr leader. That's all. There's nothing more to it than that.

Other than AJ, who is the other senior?

But at the same time.... CBJ "consistently" saying Worley is Consistent doesn't mean a whole lot. Jones is an artist at Coach speak and never gives more info than what is needed to appease media/fans. If Natties where given out for coach speak...CBJ would nailed it.
Two, he's going to say things positive about every player in question.

True. The thing that means something is that he has almost always gone out first with the 1's. That's what the "starter" does. It doesn't take an announcement if you are on the team and one certain guy just automatically steps out when the coach calls for the 1st O.

Not being condescending but have you ever played? If there's a question about who the starter is... the coach will announce who is going to be with the 1's in practice. If he wants to look at others (as Jones has) then he plugs them in later.

Worley is very far from a lock to start this year. He might start but if he was the sure fire starter he would have went no question. It is still a close competition with fall camp still to come.

The "talk" last year was that Crowder was as good as Stone, if not a better pure center. But, they chose to play the more mature and experienced player. This is an under recognized position. The center has so many responsibilities.

I can remember in 2000 when Toby Champion was projected at center. I was at a fall scrimmage, and I said, "if this guy ever plays a rep UT is dead meat." He was awful. I noticed a red shirt freshman running 2nd team who looked like the real deal. Great feet and technique.
As fall practice moved along UT moved Fred Weary to center because it was evident Champion could not compete, but Weary sustained an injury in the UF game and it wasn't Champion who came in to fill the role. It was the redshirt frosh i noticed in practice named Scott Wells. He went on to start 49 games for UT and have a great NFL career. Those were some pretty prolific offenses for UT. It all starts with the center.

So, yes, it is a great sign if he was chosen for media days.

That is pretty much wishful thinking on your part. You saw last year and simplistically blamed all of the problems on Worley. A lot of people are doing that. Now you have vested interest after talking him down for so long in seeing it be a "close competition" that he preferably loses.

I like Dobbs. I have since the report that he was looking at plays Jones gave him for just a few minutes then was able to re-diagram them without assistance. I won't shed a single tear if he's the starter though I think Worley's a good kid too. However Worley was 1 and Dobbs was 3 headed into the O&W game. It was very widely reported that the competition had been whittled down to Worley and Ferguson... and that they had set themselves apart by a meaningful margin. Ferguson being gone doesn't do a thing toward closing the gap between Worley and Dobbs.

You are expecting something to happen in about 10 practices to erase that gap. That is VERY unlikely to happen.

READ the sidenote.

According to the press release the only senior going is AJ, if your assuming Maggitt is turning pro, let's just wait and see how he recovers from the injury and does at his new position before you have him getting drafted.

No sjt, I never played and thank you for teaching me what the"starter" does. I was confused. Glad we aren't being condescending.:)
So anyway, did Worley step out when CBJ called for the 1st O practice prior to going to Eugene? Did Worley step out when CBJ called for the 1st O leading into going to the Swamp?
Was there any consistent remarks about " the need for a QB to take the job" regardless of practicing with the 1s?
Listen, I believe Worley is going to start, but fall camp hasn't even started. Worley will be most experienced QB in the entire league, if I'm not mistaken.

It's not a good sign IMO that he wasn't chosen. Leadership is going to be vital this season and we need a leader at QB. I honestly have as much faith in Dobbs and Peterman as I do Worley. Peterman got threw into a very tough position and performed poorly, but that one performance isn't enough for me to rule him out for good. I just hope which ever one wins the job , plays well and leads this team.

Don't know if this was mentioned later in the thread, but I just found out today that Worley has another gig going on these days, as a counselor at Peyton's QB camp. There are numerous other highly thought of college QBs there also as counselors, so, it's not exactly small potatoes.
