Meet the Horsemen

Lulz. Hope not. I took that pis in my avy when my foreman used a floor truss to lock his laborer in there. There's a concrete nail in that stud on the street. Laughed my butt off. Id have killed him if it were me...

Construction site humor is some of the best in the world. Most people just don't know.

Those are all classic. One of my favorites though is when you ask a greenhorn "How do two turtles f***?".

I've thought about owning my own business, but there is no work around here. Plus there have been guys that I work with that go out on their own, and are back within a year. Paper work, and s**tty help make them come back. The local here is awful, and not strong at all. I'm just buying my time for something better.

I worked for myself before the recession killed it. Hard times when yhou get up in the morn with nowhere to go. Gotta wife and 2 kids. My best friend from HS worked as a super for the biggest builder of apts in the carolinas for 9 years, the old man retired and sold him the company for a dollar. First thing he did was hire me to take his old job. He got 10 trucks and 15 lulls. Dump truck blah blah for $1. He's 35...will be millionaire by 45. Glad to be his right hand... hope this is the last job I ever have. Stressful as hell but the pay and bennys are pretty good. Lords been good to me.

I had a contract with a local builder just building decks b4 I took this job. Love building decks man...specially when you get to pimp them out. I got pics but its a pita to post em. Just built one last weekend on the side. Use my mexicans from my 40..we got about 200 migos...I hand pick the best to help me on the weekends for cash. Works out good. I could never make ends meet off just my 40...gotta hustle bro. Didn't know u guys were in the same boat. Cool.

That's cool man. Yeah our benefits suck, but the pay is good. But one of the reasons I haven't left yet is because of the people I work with and around. It just makes me like my job, and makes it easier on me. I started out working in a factory when I got out of high school for five years. I left because they promoted me and I was going to have to be in charge of a bunch of people I didn't care for, and nobody wanted the job. So I went to the apprenticeship school.

My whole fams in seymour TN...id love to be there. My wifes folks are here in charlotte so I'm stuck tho. Work here in our line is usually top 10 nationally though so there are good things about being here. Been here 20 years tho and it'll never be home. There's no place like tenn brah.

You may or may not know this...union is nonexistent in NC. Not a single const trade is union here. Only person I've ever met in 20 years here that was union worked in a tire plant. UAW I think.

Watch out about talking about your professions on her people might say you are stroking your ego. That's why I never talk about what I do anymore. Not worth the hassle.

Our local is in NC's region, and it is soon to follow in its footsteps. Journeyman will soon be non existent, and will have to choose another line of work or take a pay cut in order to compete with non union contractors. Right to work state laws are killer.
