How could we have lost this game? We were up 14 points in the second half. On our home court with Bruce "The Man" Pearl on the sideline calling plays. I was at the game and it looked like Arkansas just wanted to win more than us. I don't know how many offensive rebounds they had but it had to have been more than us. I couldn't believe it. It almost looked like a Buzz Peterson led team.

I am still very proud of these guys and hopefully they can learn from this. We have a tough Kentucky team (see LSU game today) ahead of us and if we are going to win we are going to have to play with more passion.

Of course we looked nothing like a Buzz team. That is for 34:00. I have not seen us play as bad as we did in the last 6:00 this whole year. We gave up. We had no spring in our step. I don't have the exact #'s but I can't imagine what they outscored us in the last 6 minutes. I am sure Bruce Pearl didn't go in to the locker room and tell them that it's ok you looked nothing like a Buzz Peterson team.

i agree, the last 20% of the game was an eerie resemblance of last year. we were tired and the coach made the mistake of milking the clock too early. if he would have waited till 5 minutes left, i think we would have won by about 5.

i think our guys were still a little tired from getting there a** wipped in florida friday, without fouls being called i might add,and it was just too much for them down the strech

they did look a little tired, but they also didnt attack until it was too late on the shot clock. we tried to operate a slow down offense to milk the clock, but we were too tired.

Also, we lost the lead once Wingate and Patterson got in to foul trouble. They couldn't be aggressive like Bruce likes if the refs are gonna call push offs that aren't even close to the guy and other ticky-tack crap.

4fouls and 3 fouls, respectively, aren't exactly good at 6-7 min left..

patterson was in ok shape. bradshaw had 4 fouls as well. it was strange, the refs were. arky could pound and pound inside, but wed get called for hand checking.

And 51 (I think) on Arky...the tall white guy, he held about every time we were on offense. It was bad, but never a call.

here is what happend:
we were beat up, tired, and just didnt have our feet under us. We were exausted by the end of the game and just couldnt stay with the pase of the game due to just being tired.

we slowed the game down and settled for bad shots while trying to run the clock out. we passed up on good shots just to run 5 more seconds off.

To say we look like a Buzz Peterson coached team is CRAZY!!!! The team was emotioally and physically spent and it caught up with them in the last 7-8 minutes. Comparing Buzz to Pearl is like comparing Carmen Electra to Phyllis Diller..... :eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol: :eek:lol:

It amazes me how some people seem to conveniently forget that for all the success we have had, probably 80% of the time when we step onto the court we are smaller and have less depth than our opponents. Be happy that it has only been exploited 5 times instead of the 10-15 times that we all expected.

Please forgive me if I gave the impression that I thought our team hasn't made incredible improvments from top to bottom. If you would slow down and read my post it was simply saying I had memories of last year. I didn't forget nor do I believe this team shouldn't be given all kinds of credit. The problem is we may have lost the SEC championship tonight in the last 8 minutes at home. The difference is at least we were in it. Last year we never had a chance. I will be praying for South Carolina to beat LSU in their last game. I will be at the Kentucky game cheering for UT. I hope we finish strong. Hey did Vandy win tonight?

I understand you point, and I really wasn't responding to you per seay. . . I guess it's just the whole idea that we are even talking about championships still seems so unbelievable to me that I can't really get worked up about it. If we don't win another game, this season is still a huge success.

I think there's a decent chance we will end the season with a 5 game losing streak. So what. This has been the most enjoyable team I can remember in my 27 or so years of following the Vols. Only the 81-82 team comes close.

I still think there are a few more wins left in the tank and maybe even a mini tournament run. All I'm saying is don't be surprised if we win a couple of games in the NCAAs, but don't lose your mind if we go to the SEC or NCAA tournament and go one and done.

I really don't know what to expect. I really thought it would be tough to beat Florida at Florida. In my heart heart I thought we could win but my mind was telling me otherwise. Today I knew we would win. At home coming down the stretch, the SEC Championship in the balance....We loose, basically fall apart in Knoxville! This has been a truly historic season. No one expected us to be where we are. No one expected us to loose to Arkansas. Go figure. I have been saying I thought this team could make it to the Sweet Sixteen. I still feel that way in my heart but my mind is telling me different.

Its just one game! This loss will mean nothing down the line. Plus remember that Arkansas had everything to play for. This loss might do you good in the end. Let the team know it can't coast and that even when it looks like they are going to win, the other team isn't going to give up. Got to finish. This is a good lesson for the NCAA tournament.

It was more than just one game. It could have cost us the SEC Championship and possibly a #1 seed

Tennessee was never getting a number 1 seed.
