Memphis hasn't asked for permission.....officially.

Why would you leave Tennessee for Memphis if you're playing in a larger conference and have better facilities (22,000 seat arena and brand new practice facility)?

Aside from money, I don't see a whole lot of incentive otherwise. If you blame it on the fan base you're nuts, because the memphis basketball fan base was nothing before cal

Memphis has good facilities too playing in FedEx Forum. They also can throw some serious cash and offer the opportunity for Pearl to achieve the God-like status that Cal enjoyed while being there. No football there.

I knew the fedex forum thing would be a thought, but I still think our overall facilities are better

I think they are too, but the Memphis fans are having a field day on their message board. Check this out.

No. UM has first class facilities.

You ask why Pearl would consider Memphis? Think of it this way - the last coach at Memphis played in a title game and is now has the sweetest basketball contract in the world outside of Phil Jackson and maybe K.

The last three coaches at UT aren't even coaching now.

The Pratt Pavilion is nicer than the Finch Center.

I like Pearl, but I honestly can't see the University shelling out $3 million for him if it is true. There are better coaches out there who could be had for that amount. Again, I like Pearl and wish he would stay.

To each his own. I personally prefer the orange, but realistically speaking, the recent upgrades to the Finch put it over the top.

From another board...Fred Smith, Fedex founder, is promoting Pearl as the next coach....I think the next 24 hours are going to be really interesting...if Memphis offers 3.5 million a year..Will UT??

Last I saw, Roy Williams signed a $1.8 million contract (with incentives) back in 07, now please tell me how anyone in their right mind would offer Pearl 3.5 mil a year? COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS

Yeah, but how are the three full time coaches that preceeded Cal doing?

I'm not sure a small bump is going to keep him when they are offering him almost double his salary for this year.

I will say the same thing that I said about Cal leaving for KY. IF Pearl leaves for Memphis, it won't necessarily be about the money. Lots of factors go into these decisions.
