Memphis hasn't asked for permission.....officially.

No. UM has first class facilities.

You ask why Pearl would consider Memphis? Think of it this way - the last coach at Memphis played in a title game and is now has the sweetest basketball contract in the world outside of Phil Jackson and maybe K.

The last three coaches at UT aren't even coaching now.

So coaching at Tennessee means Pearl will be out of a job in a few years?

Just be honest, there isn't any big difference in the facilities. Facilities are not going to be a factor in Pearl's decision.

I'm being honest - FEF is a lot nicer than TBA. But yeah - that's not the point of the matter - but he's not going to leave for facilities.

Money and being THE coach on campus (and in the city) would be the biggest two reasons I suspect (if it does go through).

EDIT: And racking up 25-30 wins a season.

He currently averages right under 25 wins a season.

Also, from what I have heard the last few days, asking for permission is far from the first step in contacting a coach. A "3rd party" goes out to get a feel for which coaches show interest and go and talk to them. Evidently 3rd parties don't need to ask permission.

This. In the modern era of search firms they often skip the step of asking permission.

I was just surfing the Memphis board, and their "inside sources" claim a $3 million dollar a year deal is on the table for Pearl. Think there is any chance that is true? The guy claimed to have upper level friends in FedEx.

Not saying it is for sure true, but it would not surprise me in the least. Alan Graf (FedEx) is one of the leaders of the search committee.

Everyone in the city knows that. Which also means that pretty much anyone can say they know upper level people at FedEx and make up rumors.

Agreed, which is why I wouldn't say it is for sure true...but I wouldn't say it isn't possible.

Pearl, 49, seems to be a much more realistic possibility. According to a source close to Tennessee’s program, Pearl has expressed interest in the position through intermediaries.

This is from the article in the Commercial Appeal about the Wow coaching search.

I knew the fedex forum thing would be a thought, but I still think our overall facilities are better

Cal had the Finch Center built while there. It is a great facility that a lot of people outside of Memphis don't know about. Also, do the Vols fly charter and have their own bus? This bus goes to where the Tigers travel regardless of whether they fly or not. For example, Tigers flew to KC two weeks ago. Their bus was driven there for the team's use during the weekend. It ain't no trailways either. People downplay the perks at Memphis without actually knowing the facts.

Ask Memphis if there was any deal already made before UK asked permission?

The next hire at Memphis will be someone that is more apt to sell the program than coach. Someone with a large personality. Someone who boosts the local shipping giant while also boosting the University. A cheerleader type. Who on the list of candidates fits that description?

I have been to Pratt and the Finch. Sorry, but Pratt is on a completely different level versus the Finch.

And of course Tennessee charters.

Chartered planes and buses? That is freaking awesome.

Pearl is not coming to Memphis. Jeff Caulkins (local sports columnist)stirred up most of these rumors and has an article expressing his approval of Pearl for the Job. Pearl is considered a Calipari mold...great pitch man, great recruiter, and decent coach. Memphis has to have all three to be as successful as they have been. Caulkins uses the returning talent at Tennessee vs. Memphis as the focus for the potential for Pearl to come to Memphis. I have been to Pratt and to Finch. About a wash. Fed Ex Forum though is Top Notch.

Actually, the rumors were running rampant before the article in the CC.
