Is there a reason we cant get kids out of Memphis area. Seems like we could get some kids to play BB. They always got talent around the Memphis area. I know Calipari got most of them while at Memphis. In football i seen where Ed O and Kif were after a DT named Redding in the Memphis area.

Because Memphis 8 hours away from Knoxville. There are alot of schools with good football and basketball programs closer than UT. Plus, most people don't want to consider Memphis part of Tennessee.

Yeah Miss St., Ole Miss, Arky, and Vandy all seem to have just as much influence in the area as UT.

Memphis is by far one of the most diverse fan bases I have ever seen...and I would venture to say that Tennessee isn't the biggest fan favorite. Most people are huge Memphis fans and that pretty much means they dislike Tennessee. Ole Miss, Arkansas, Miss. State, and Alabama are probably the favorites around here as far as the SEC is concerned.

i have a feeling (with absolutely no proof to back it up, other than the junior verbal commit from Memphis) that Pearl is making progress in the city to our West. Cal not being there certainly helps.

I don't know how regularly you travel between the two cities but I can get to Memphis in about 5.5 hours driving right at the speed limit. I'm not saying that the 390 miles is negligible, but we regularly pull kids from other states with significantly longer travel times.

And all of those people aren't very bright.

There is NO WAY you can get from Knoxville to Memphis in 5.5 hours driving the speed limit. I live in West TN right on the TN River and it takes me an hour and a half to get to Memphis. It takes 5 to 5 1/2 to get to Knoxville from here.

Google Chris Jones, Wayne Chism, JP Prince, Tony Harris, Dane Bradshaw

I live in Memphis and go to school at UT... If you went the speed limit it would take 5 1/2 barring traffic. Usually it takes 5 hours and 15 minutes.

Chism is from Bolivar, which is not Memphis. When it comes to basketball recruiting I think it comes down to style of play preferences. The Memphis scene lends itself to a more free flow, almost pick-up style coupled with tough D. Pearl's style is obviously working, but to get the 5 star "hoopers," he'd have to cut out all that damn pressing. Lotta kids dont look foward to it.

Are you saying Bolivar isn't in the Memphis "area"? If you read the thread you'll notice area in all of the posts.

Chism is from the Jackson/Bolivar area. Which is basically influenced by the same places Memphis kids are influenced by. And UT does not have any kind of dominance in recruiting kids here.

Driving the speed limit? Maybe with the time change? I just made the drive from knoxville to jackson (hour from memphis going speed limit) yesterday. I left at 3 ET drove 75 and got home around 8 ET. So it is 5 hours. I think you would have had to been going 80+ to make that.

I'll settle on halfway between Memphis and Jackson. I bought a dog for my grandson in Middleton which is just south of Bolivar.

According to Google maps, Knoxville and Memphis are 391 miles apart. If you gas up before you leave, never stop and average 75mph, you can get there in 5 hours and 13 minutes. I used to make it from Knoxville to Jackson in 4.5 hours all the time in college. Memphis in another hour is not that big of a stretch.

And 391 miles is from the west end of Memphis to the east end of Knoxville.
