Memphis not in the NIT

They gave him a raise and extension a year or two ago, and I believe he has close to $10 million left without a buyout clause. So, it must be 4 more years, and he would have to agree to a buyout. I just don't believe the school can afford to do it right now.

He has underachieved, but he did go to 4 straight NCAAT's before this year. That's not totally easy. There are other things being discussed that will make it difficult to hire a new coach. The school has cut back some, and that includes taking some commercial over charter flights and not sending its band/cheerleaders to the conference tournament.

It really is when you consider the conference they were playing in most of that time. They've been in a "decent" conference for two years, and failed to make it one of those. He made it last year, but flamed out with a senior laden team that we top 10 in many preseason polls. I honestly can't think of a single coach who has done less with more. Can anyone name a D1 coach you wouldn't rather have than Pastner?

There are plenty of coaches that I would rather have at Memphis. The coach for Mercer (Bob Hoffman) appeared to be a good coach last year, when they upset Duke. They did not have a good year this year though.

One of those years he had to win the conference tournament when his big recruiting class was young, and he did. I understand the argument; I live in Memphis. It takes a little more than just beating up on your conference opponents as Tulsa found out this year in the AAC. But, nonetheless, he has certainly underachieved, and the fans are starting to turn on him.

Rumors are some of the budget cuts are a direct result of the booster's displeasure with the product Pastner put on the floor this year. They are paying top dollar for services rendered and getting a mediocre product in a mediocre setting. So it's gotten to the point that Memphis money people are taking perks from Josh like a parent would take their kid's Legos if they acted up.

"Coffee's for closers".

I interviewed at Memphis for a doctoral position Tuesday. Maybe I should have dropped some film of my playstation coaching skills by the athletic office while I was there.
