Memphis to BE?

Still waiting for something. I know Vandy has been to 2 bowl games during that 30 year period. Can you enlighten us with anything more.

Do you not follow baseball, basketball, and academics. It is necessary for a conference to have some schools that help keep athletic academic standards balanced.

The offer from Fedex is real. They just didn't want it made public knowledge. Their position is more "if Memphis becomes a member of your BCS conference we have several million dollars we could contribute to a conference championship game, naming rights, ect."

Instead it's become "Fedex wants to buy off a BCS conference."

The guy in Memphis that ran the story, Gary Parrish, said Fred Smith is pissed about it being made public knowledge.

That is basically what it amounts to no matter how much they might try to pretty it up.

Which is not much different from any other major university with their boosters, other than FedEx wants to sponsor something so they can get some advertisement going (FedEx Big East Conference Tournament for example). FedEx is huge into sports marketing and sees this as another avenue while also helping the local university (more than they already do).

This subject has been blown way out of proportion.

Not really, and I large percentage of TN fans are like me. TN and the SEC is a football conference.

Don't get me wrong. If the other programs do good, I will keep up with them but primarily because football season is not here.

As for academics, I chose a school with a stronger engineering program over TN even though I bled orange when graduating TN. TN is still my sports school but not my academic school.

In other words, you're a fair weather fan.

Doesn't matter to me as long as they stay out of the SEC. WE don't need to add another weak program like Vandy or Kentucky.

Name a BCS conference that doesn't have historically weak football programs. Thanks. Your statement is ridiculous.

Enlighten us then. I've been a follower of the SEC for over 30 years now, and I can't say I see any strong benefit to the SEC from these two programs other than adding historic tradition to the SEC as being original members.

Programs other than football and women's basketball - yes. Football and women's basketball - no!

As are many UT fans. Look at Mike Hamilton. He has not hired a successful baseball coach yet, but he's still around. See how long he lasts if his track record with Football coaches goes down the same path. Football is what runs the school as well as the conference.

Looks like Memphis might get its wish next week. Memphis and Central Florida likely heading to Big East.

Good for Memphis...I guess.

How about using some more of that Fed Ex money to renovate that dump calling The Liberty Bowl?

If the Big East goes to 12 football teams, doesn't that mean they'd have to go 20 in basketball?
